If anyone, other than an LEO with a court order asks you to surrender your ID, DON"T DO IT! In the hands of the wrong person or people they can take that information and steal your identity and use it for a number of criminal acts or in a legal sense you become an unidentified person. I was recently asked to surrender my ID to use a shower at a laundromat. Also by a gas station when buying fuel. Don't let anyone copy your ID or give a copy to anyone unless it is lawfully necessary.
