ideas on stereo system for truck?

I am wanting to replace the factory CD player in the truck and wanting to get some new speakers. I listen to hard rock (no rap) so the boom boom im not worried about. I want something for a reasonable price that will rock out. Any ideas i was thinking better door speakers maybe a 10 or two. Can some one give me some ideas and pricing and what would be a good setup. I am not looking for extreme just a little better than i got. Rather not run a amp if i dont need too. Not sure needing ideas. Thanks in advance.

Justin

Just replaced mine with an Alpine CDA-9883. Seems to be a real nice unit. HD ready and iPod ready. The unit itself was $199 and included ALL the install stuff (wiring harness, antenna adapter and dash adapter). the HD unit was $199 also. The iPod cable was included free with the unit.

Not sure about speakers as I have the 7 speaker Infinity system already.

Got all of this from Crutchfield. Real fast order processing, shipping and real good tech support.

Hope this give you an idea.

Im running a Pioneer head unit that ran around $150, All pioneer speakers, a 10" sub in custom box replacing the center console, and a 150w sony amp. I have around $600 in the whole setup. Not a compition system by no means but sounds really good to my ears.

I personally like alpine for headunits. If you want to stick with a single din (cheaper cost, ususaly no fancy touch screen) I have the 9887 in my car (tested it in my truck) my truck has the dva-9860 (dvd playing) both sound good but the 9887 puts out more power RMS and will drive speakers better. If you have something to the equvilant of the infinity system that my truck had with compoent speakers you wont be able to replace them with anything better sounding without an amp. alpine makes a decently priced and soundng amp in there new class D line. I have a older pheonix gold titanium. I think its one of the better sounding amps made. for speakers I have MB Quart QSD's and the factory rear ones. I think retail for the amp was 1000 and 1500 for the speakers however on ebay they were each around 500. not the cheapest setup but I couldnt see spending money for a "down grade". I base this on my other 98 that I put a cheaper alpine amp in and boston acustic 3way 6x9's. Still dosent sound as good as the factory infinity system.

Anyway thats my opinion. Theres TONS of stuff out there. I wanted clear sound with depth so thats what I chose. Go listen to speakers in trucks if youo can since they ususaly sound differnt on the soundboards in car audio stores. good luck

Memphis Audio. I swear by them. Alpine and Pioneer make good head units, but its all in what you want for looks.

infinity kappas are great replacement speakers but to really drive them you will need an amp- i have an infinity 7541 that puts ouy 444 watts and was priced great at about $249 at car toys. go with an amp from the get go and you wont have to go back and do it later.

I'm running a JVC head unit and like it just because it will accept a sd card or a USB junk drive and can still hook a Ipod to it. I just liked the sd card slot because that is what my palm pilot used so it doubled its uses for me. I have infinity kappas 6x9's in my doors and love them as well. Not real inpressed with the alpines I put in the back think they are gonna get replaced with Infintiys and have one 10 behind the seat in my regular cab and will jam out on rock and roll and alternative. I think you would be pleased with just one 10inch sub and a decent amp on it.

What ever you pick make sure that it's "bluetooth" capable and has an "Aux" in on the front. This enables you to answer your cell phone through the radio and also plug in a MP3 player. The radio has an internal mic and sound comes from the car speakers. Some decks enable up to 8 different cell phones to be activated at once. If you listen to loud music the tunes stop playing when the phone rings and you answer the phone through the radio. I installed a Sony in my kids Honda on the weekend, the deck cost around $200.

Alpine head unit, Kicker RS series component set in front, Memphis audio in rear , 4-channel Eclipse amp 100watts x 4 and if thats not enough put two CVX Kicker subs under back seat.

Ordered Alpine's CDA-9883, Alpine SPR-69C 6"x9" for the Front Door, and Infinity Reference 6022si 6-1/2" for the Rear Door. Wanted to put all Alpine in but couldnt find a 6 1/2" for the back hopefully the 6022si will be ok.

I have always used Alpine head units and amps with Infinity speakers. Good choice. I am trying to replace my head unit now in my 07 QC with something thats mp3 and Sirius. Will go with Alpine but not sure if they plug right into the Sirius setup that comes stock in the truck??? I am new to satellite. Let us know how it sounds. Good Luck

You will be happy mixing infinity and alpine, both work together excellent. I currently run all alpine minus the subs, which i could not fit a alpine type r or x in the position.. so i went with Xtant on the subs.

Good choices.

Got everything installed on the truck and let me say its a MAJOR!! upgrade over stock. The mix of alpine 6x9's with the infinity 6 1/2" makes for a very nice setup that works very well in the High's and mids. However I feel it does lack in the lows and bass so I'm probably going to order a sub to compliment this system.

One note...Crutchfield claims that the rears are 6 1/2" I had to mod the mounting points to accommodate the Infinity speakers they fit just fine however you could probably get away with the alpine 5 1/2" in the rear if you wanted.

Total install took me about 90 minutes but thats with a busted left wrist in a brace so it could probably be done faster.
