Ice Storm Pictures

For you guys who have never seen an ice storm here are some pics. Follow the links to other storm pics too. 2.5" thick ice. We still have 8,000 familes without power and it will take another 3 weeks to get all the power lines back up. Crews from as far away as Wisconsin have come in to help. Worse storm in 50 years.

We got hit with winter too early up here, but got a nice blessing and got thawed out the last few weeks. Suppose to be comeing again soon though. We have a Haliburton base up by Kalskaska that has a fleet of utility maintenance trucks. I've been by a few of thieer convoys on the highway whenever a big weather event is going on somewhere in the country. I imagine they're playing around out there now. Good luck and keep your fingers crossed for the February Thaw to hit early this year.

We had a Ice Storm here in Maine back in 1998, We did not have power back at our house for 4 weeks. We were living on a generator the entire time. The thickness of the ice was about the same as what you saw. You guys are more lucky if you can say that because your land is vastly open fields, where up here all of are roads are lined by trees. Roads were shut down and you could not get anywhere because of all the trees that snapped and fell in the road. I remember my Dad and I just going down the road with chainsaws and his 97 CTD and cuttin trees in the road and hookin a chain to them and pulling them out of the way so we could get through to go and buy a generator. It was kind of fun now that i think back on it. I also remember standing outside at night and just hearing all the trees snap in the woods, it almost sounded like gunfire, it was loud.

Let me know if he needs anything. PM me his phone number if you want me to call him. I could buy him a generator here in Lincoln, and haul it up to him. I could haul something there or fly it up there to Kearney airport and meet him. If he needs fuel let me know. I have a 100 gallon fuel tank on a trailor with a 12v pump. I was just in Kearney yesterday.

Loop City Airport may be closer to him also.

Hey thanks! He is doing good, we are relatives to everyone in Pleasanton so he has been staying with those who have generators. All the horses are ok (about 40 head) with feed and water.
Thanks again.

just called him and power got back late last night!

That doesn't surprise me. Nebraskans are a tough lot, pretty independant.

Let me know if he needs anything though. I need a mission!

That is about the ice levels we had here back in 2000.
Those of us that live south of 36N aren't used to that kinda thang...

Most of the people who got nailed hard can't post pics cause they have no electricity to get to the internet! Tulsa got off pretty lucky. From Muskogee to McAlester is where most of the carniage is. 124,000 homes and businesses without power and ice accumulation on trees and powerlines in excess of 1 inch.

EDIT: Here are some pics from local news station... http://community.fox23.com/photos/icestorm/default.aspx
