IBM rant........

I purchesed a brand new IBM G41 in July '05. It came with a 1 year warrente. I didn't buy an extended warrente because I didn't feel an IBM would need it. I've had no issues on the programs or any of the hardwear.

But I have had an issue with the case on the screen. Last September a small crack devolped directaly above the left hinge. I didn't think much of it, I made a few phone calls and had it repaired at IBM's cost. I figured the problem was fixed. I wasn't too happy, the screen came back with filler plugs missing. I called them back and had them make note of it.

So come January exact same crack come back. It looked the same, it was the same lenght and in the exact same place. At this point I took a few picturs of it incase it happened again. I than called IMB up and explaned my situation. I told them that it was the second time this has happened and that my warrente was running out. They assured me that they would check and replace the hinge as well as the screen case. It came back as good as new. I figured that they replaced the hinge, fixing this problem for good.

So last week I opened up my screen and noticed the same crack in the same place. I'm not happy about this because my warrente is over and this is the THIRD time.

I've never droped the laptop, never miss treated it. Any were it goes its in a targus case. It spends most of its time on my lap on the couch or on a wooden shelf.

What do I do? Call and demand they fix it for free? Call and demand a new laptop?

I'm at a loss, I dont want to deal with it anymore. I use this computer every day. I do my school work on it. I surf the net on it. It is my main computer.

any ideas?

1st step would be to call their Customer service folks and calmly discuss the problem.
Most large companies seems to be willing to work with you to correct a problem.

I assume the crack is in the plastics and not the panel. Apparently they have a design flaw in the plastics or the hinge clutch. I would call IBM and make a case note on this issue again.
I don't take cracking plastics lightly, unless abused by the customer.
