Ok, so i got off **** today a 7am. the online firefighter come in and i ask if they cleaned bay floors last shift which should have been done. he said not, so as nice as i could asked him why not. he told me his partner told him not to worry about it. so i told him that it is both of their jobs to make sure it getts done again as nice as i could. he tells me that his partner is the senior firefighter which is true and that if he says not to do it than hes not doind it. so my nice goes out the door. i try telling him that if the LT got wind that they were not doing their jobs that they would both be in for it. he still was not understanding that i was only trying to inform him and not calling him out. What in the do i do. i'll tell you what i want to do but i think i may be looking for a new job if i let my true feelings come out. and this is not the only thing that he has done this is just a mark on the list. man do i dislike him....

this is becoming a pretty common trait with the "new jacks" i have noticed. even worse in dot com fireman. i wouldnt sweat them not doing the bays to much, maybe the humidity was high...a common problem where we are. as long as you do your job people will notice as well as those that dont do thiers. where was the officer in charge? he should be ultimately responsible for the station and should delegate it to his subordinates!

we have two man engines and three paid stations station one has a firefighter and LT every shift and the other two have two firefighters normaly one senior to the other but still both firefighter at the same pay, so one no better than the other. and that shift's so called LT has less certs than i do. and i know that the floors not getting done that one time isn't a big deal but its opens the door for other things to start comming up. oh well maybe if i would have got to online fire school i would know better.

Hello from Fayetteville, Arkansas. IAFF Local 2866. I was also noticing the other day that there were several firemen on this site. Always good to meet fellow brothers. MSquare, I know how you feel. In January I took a sick day for an allergic reaction I had to some antibiotics (the first sick day I had taken in over a year) and we had a 3 alarm church fire. It went defensive pretty quickly, so I tell myself I didn't miss much. (yea right)

Wow, you guys don't have minimum manning at your department? Its hard enough to operate down to three men on a piece let alone with two. It must be eventfull for you guys on the fire ground running that short handed, be extra careful!

Starting pay in Fayetteville is $31,200. Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville, and Fayetteville are all about the same. Fayetteville requires EMT-B before you get hired, I don't think any of the others require EMT for newhires, but you must become EMT-B cert. within 12mo. after you are hired. Paramedics are in short supply, they can get hired anywhere. Fayetteville dosen't run ambulances, all the other departments do. Let me know if I can help you. Where does your brother live?

at the dept where i started, he had a 2 man pumper and a 3 man pumper with the 3rd usually hanging back to bring the pumper. it was a good turn out if we had 10 fulltime fireman at a fire thanks to mutual aid. it was alot of work, but we did it. now where i work, we have 4 man minimum staffing and hydrants everywhere. this way is alot easier. before i had only been in one fire where there was a hole cut, now its almost every fire since we have a didicated truck co. i couldnt believe the difference it made. ill find an old post i did a year or so ago about the differences in gear we have compared to other places too

We had a few older guys with that style hood but they are long since gone. You got to love the voice amplifier on the scott face piece, it was harder to hear with those stupid things turned on because of the feedback through the mic. I have a couple pairs of gloves similar to the ones you posted, the only difference is a shorter wrist shank, and its all leather, they are deffinitely easier to use.
I am a trucky through and through, I,m glad to see you younger guys appreciate the roof work that we do, when I was on a pump, once we heard the saws cutting through we would push in even harder knowing that we would be able to make headway and push the fire out. Great experience to work both sides, you develop an appreciation for what the other guys are going through.

You guys would like the piece that I'm on, its a 100' pierce all steer rear mount ariel, works super slick, now if I can get one of my kids to show me how to post some pictures then I will post some.
