There is a good chance that i will get a new job starting 1/1/08 and the new department is big into the COMBAT CHALLENGE. so with that said what do you guys think. should i get into it. i love to be inolved in compitetion so i think it would be kinda cool. they are so into it that their physical test is almost the same the only thing is that it's a three story and not six, other than that it is the same. 7min time so i should be fine.

I think if you're into that(combat challenge) you should consider it, you will definitely benefit from it because you will stay in shape!! Would it mean a pay raise?? Closer to home?? Opportunity for promotions?? Are they civil service?? Do they have Collective Bargaining/meet and confer?? All these would be things you should think about and consider. One of the bad things about moving to a diff. dept would be you start back at the bottom, and I don't know how much time you've got on your current dept, but for me it would suck having to start all over. A bunch of things to consider, you just have to weigh it all out and decide whats most important for you. Good luck!!

ok, i have a couple of questions for all of you Fire Fighters.

what is y'alls opinions on the marking of volunteer vehicles as Fire Vehicles?

do you think a volunteer driving around in a personal vehicle marked Fire Department is a no no? should this be something to check with the prospective department on?

im just thinking about options for my truck, provided that i actually make it on a department this time.

anyway, i was talking to my neighbor about joining a Department on a volunteer basis. told him where it was that we will most likely be moving to. he said, "if you tell them you want to be a volunteer, they will ****** you up quick".

so it looks like i may have a good chance of getting on a Fire Department. im going to call the Chief of this Department tomorrow and find out where the volunteer station is (they have 2 manned and 1 volunteer), so i will know if i will be close enough to be a volunteer.

Just my opinion, and take it for what its worth, I WOULD NOT mark it. I would just get some hidden strobes, something thats not visible to the untrained eye , but clearly visible when responding. No need to paint it up like a Fire Truck, because its not. Besides, people don't yield to fire trucks, what makes you think if you mark it all up that their gonna yield to you?? THEIR NOT. Good luck on getting on the department, keep us updated.
