Hang in there bud. It took me almost 3 years to get hired. I applied to all of the major depts. around and finally got on. I had to line myself up with people that "know" people to do it though. Used to it wasn't what you know but "who" you know. Now it is completely different. It is strictly score alone that will get you hired. Much easier in my opinion considering I didn't know anyone on the fire dept. before I started the process. But I can be pretty persuasive and it finally worked out.

Now 13 years later it is still the best job in the world. These people are truly my brothers and sisters. You can't say that about many jobs in this world.

Just thought I would get us back to the first page!

No crazy calls? We had an assault call at 2200 the other night, no biggie. But then the next door neighbor (apartments), calls us out at 0330 and says he isn't feeling well.

How long has this been going on?

Two days!

Why didn't you talk to us when we were here earlier?

I didn't want to bother you......

I know, it was an emergency to him and he is our "customer", BUT it still drives me crazy! lol

I hear ya, happens to all of us I guess. I thought we were the only city with a plethora of Dummies. I just got off my 24 this am, pretty quiet, I stepped up to Captain so, I had more paperwork/computer work than normal, but it's nice to swing out to another station every now and then. One of the guys there cooked up some chicken marsala and man was that some good stuff. Never had that before mmmmmmm then cheescake for desert. I need to recruit a decent cook to my station Ya'll have a great one, oh and Brett, you need a day off, you're gonna burn out

Had a night drill/RIT training at 2200 hrs. Spent nearly an hour staging for a possible stabbing at 0200 hrs this morning before being cancelled by PD, and a sick call at 0530 hrs. Made for a pretty long night.

Yea, we seem to do about 2 night drills a year, I don't like them. It would be one thing if they would let you get some sleep during the day before the drill, but you know that's not going to happen. Makes for a long shift that's for sure.

Hey guys, just thought I'd get this thread back up top. I'm at the station today, one of them days where I'd rather not be here. I got here this morning to find my truck with a compartment door knocked off. One of the rookies tried pulling it out of the station with the door open. So now my truck has a door missing on the side of it. Anyways, hope everyone has a great one! Stay safe!!

That's exactly why I like the roll up doors on our truck. One less thing to worry about.

Have a safe one

I agree, I'm pretty sure when we get a new one it will have them, they've put them on our latest truck, so hopefully they've seen the light!!

Luckily the bay didn't sustain any damage, it tore the bay door track up and they fixed that and tore the door off the truck but thats it. And yeah, I been after him pretty hard since I found out. It'll be ruff going for him for a while

rightfully so! one of my fav. is when they are talking, you turn to someone else mid-sentence, and say, "do you remember when rookies didnt talk?"

the look on their face is classic!

we have been getting nailed lately. 11 calls last shift and 9 yesterday. i had to break the tags twice and i hate doing that becuase i have to re-stock everything...one of the negatives to having a LT. as a emt-p, i am an intermediate and 2 basics!

if i had to go thru the interview process again, and they ask whats the one thing i dont like about it, my answer would be doing reports!

Well, we had an interesting shift yesterday. Ended up with 6 runs and 2 fires. Yesterday afternoon we had a fire in the wall of a “Very” nice restaurant in our district. Someone apparently threw a cigarette in some landscaping by the wall and it caught the paper barrier between the masonry and plywood and spread up the inside wall. We had to use our K-12 with a masonry blade and cut out a large portion of the wall. Needless to say, the restaurant isn’t quite as nice but we caught it before it spread into the structure. If it would have happened in the middle of the night it would have gotten a head start and it would have been ugly. Oh, did I mention it was 105* while all of this was going on. Then about 4:00am this morning someone rang the drunk bell and told us that the business NEXT DOOR TO OUR STATION was on fire. At least our response time was good. Business sustained a fair amount of damage but it will survive. We gained entry and did a primary search while the pump was doing their thing. The building was a block construction so it held the heat really well. Got the fire knocked down in about 10 mins and then it was just salvage and overhaul and waiting for the inspector. Classic “V” pattern on the wall though so it made it pretty easy to figure out the area where it started.

I really need a nap but if I take one I won’t sleep tonight. Looks like an early night for me.

Stay safe.

Britt
