So are you saying the dealer does have the ability to rewrite this into a buy rather than a lease?
CALL the dealer and TELL your salesman you didn't read the fine line and you thought it was a sale, not lease...
SURE WISH LUKE S. was still on the board... he sold dodges and knew all the ins and outs of buying and selling....
anyone still in touch with the guy?
Yeah that'll work... :
:
Luke S is here. Cummins Luke. Being the son of the owner he should know the ins and outs of selling. Sheesh.. He is not in California. Remember guys dealers are there to make money. Not to make customers happy with a bad purchase.

I always here about options to lease a vehicle, but what are the advantages in leasing a vehicle? I have never considered anything but buying a vehicle. I know whenever I decide to sell my truck, hopefully it will be paid off (I am straight out of college and cannot pay $30000 in cash), and I can get I nice down payment on my future CTD with stock 400hp and the allison tranny ;D.

Matt,
For the average person, I dont see any real advantages to leasing - other than being able to drive a vehicle you couldnt normally afford. Personally, I think its a bit of a scam - there is always a LOT of fine print in the contracts. Some of the problems I have with leasing are: you have the truck for 4 years - during this time your payments are almost as much as a loan would be, Dodge tells you how many miles they will LET you drive, you dont own the truck, and in the end you are left with a huge balloon payment that in most cases you cant afford. Then the dealer gladly takes the truck back and sells it for a really good dollar, since they didnt LET you drive it very much.
I have worked for some companies, that both bought and leased - they didnt lease for long. It was more economical to buy and when they were finished with their trucks they sent them to a truck auction.
My parents taught me the same lesson as BigBlue - " If you can't buy it with cash, then you don't need it that bad. "
I realize that not everyone can pay cash for an expensive vehicle, but I figure its best to be able to at least pay for 1/2 of it......that way you dont get youself into trouble.
My 0.02....

IF, and its a big IF...You make enough noise, the dealer may unwind the deal just to solve the problem...I was a finance manager at a honda dealer, hence why I know about leases..If a customer complains loud and long enough, the dealer has the ability to unwind the deal. But he doesn't have to..The rules regarding purchases and leases are...Not applicable to any 3 day rule..You signed several papers, one of which says there is no "cooling off" period in Ca. Buyers remorse is not a reason to return the truck. Your best option at this point, is to see if a bank or credit union will refinance the truck for you. You have 5000 left from your down payment..You should have no problem getting a bank to refi..OR...go back to the dealer, and tell him you want to refi the contract to a purchase..And that you are willing to put an additional down payment to do this..Work with them..they will do whatever they can to satisfy you..they will bend over backwards to please you if you approach it in a business like manner..You have some options available to you..consider them carefully, and read every document you are signing..Good luck.

In a lease, the taxes AND license fees are calculated into the monthly payment. Its like an impound acct for those of you who have mortages. In Ca, your tax on that truck is at 8 and a half percent, and you know how high the DMV fees are now. That effectively added close to 12,000 to the price of the truck. So the 14,000 quoted earlier by someone who said you overpaid, is correct. But you didn't overpay. Its called tax and license fees. . . End of story, enjoy the truck. Don't let a bad buying experience ruin it for you.
Now add finance charges to the 12k, there's your 14k. I was in this same (almost) situation in '99. Bought the truck on a Saturday, called the manager on Monday and told him the truck wasn't going to work for me. I dropped off the truck the next Monday with 300 miles on it and nobody said a thing. I'd try to return it, you might get lucky. Just remember, 'I payed too much' is not a valid excuse to a dealership.

Re:I THINK I GOT Ripped off !!
Depending upon the state, you have 72 hrs to back out of the deal, otherwise you're on the hook.
I never spend five hours at a dealership, if I can avoid it!
Leasing, is another way of getting screwed by the dealer, the bank and everyone else, who's got their hand in your pocket.
If it's a new vehicle, you don't need an extended warranty. The $1100 warranty on sale for $799 really sells for about $399. The rest is pure profit. And, there's no telling if the warranty company is going to be in business next week, month or year. Dealers make more money on the extras than on the sale.
My experience with leasing goes back to the late 80's and it was a mess! What I paid over the 48-mo lease period amounted to the interest on the bank loan arranged by the dealership. It never touched the original purchase price. At the end, they wanted me to bring the vehicle, not to my dealer, but all the way to Atlanta, where all the leased vehicles in my region went for inspection and payoffs.
After driving 1400 miles, which now put me over the alloted mileage, I was slapped with additional "fees" of $1250! I had been trying to purchase the truck from the leasing company, but was unable due to the high costs involved, which would have kept me under the mileage agreement (60k mi).
They showed no mercy and no forgiveness for screwing me. They wanted what they wanted and wouldn't take another amount instead. I'd never do it again, even if I was rich!

Re:I THINK I GOT Ripped off !!
I can see plenty of reasons to lease a vehical and if you shop right you can get a great deal its really all about buying a vehical that is at a great price to begin with and the ridual value has been inflated to turn cars. for business this can be a great way. With that said A ram CTD does not fall into that catagory from what I have seen especially if we are talking about offering sticker price and then adding warranties on top of that. I don't quite understand the warranty thing howw many miles did you get with the lease if you plan on alot of miles you should consider the over miles penalties.(lot's of people buy the CTD for driving lots of miles)
Have you tried talking with the owner of the dealership? perhaps he or she would be more reasonable than you think, it would't hurt to try. If that doesn't work apeal to Chrysler to put some pressure on the dealer maybe that would work. Often times a Lawyer can shake things loose but you have to add the costs to the Lawyer :'( to the deal and that may make things even worse , if you can work it out face to face with the owner it would seem to be better they don't want the bad press. anyhow it always makes you feel bad if you feel you have been taken advantage of so I hope you get some relief so you can enjoy your new CTD best of luck hope you didn't mind the preaching

Why in the world would somebody pay for an extended warranty on a leased vehicle? ???
Because dealerships don't make near enough money.

Re:I THINK I GOT Ripped off !!
NEVER LEASE A VEHICLE! If you own a company and are buying a fleet it could be a advantage to you, but to just lease one for your own personal? Never! You got took and I am sorry to say that. You must be very careful around those sales people. There line of BS is there paycheck. Right now I can pick up a 2003 CTD SLT Quad Cab 4x4 Loaded to the hilt, cash and carry out the door for $30,148.00.
I think you would be better off to dump the truck and start fresh. READ THE FINE PRINT on your contract and see if you can break the lease some how.
