I POD questions ...

hey guys im hoping some of you out there have knowledge on these things, im looking at buying the I POD 30GB that holds 7500 songs. its a little bigger than the I POD nano and for an extra 50 bucks you go from 1000 - 7500 songs. my question is can you set this thing up for 3 different playlists ? there will be 3 of us sharing it, myself, wife, and daughter. id like to be able to set it up so each of us has our own section ( me wife daughter ). then can each of those 3 sections be broken down by music choice like, country, rock, oldies, 70's etc.. ? also .. any reason not to go with the I POD? i hear alot of good comments about them and like the idea that its a well known compnay that makes it. thanks guys, scott

You can set up as many play lists as you want as long as you have the songs on it. Then again, with a capacity of 7500 songs why wouldn't you?

You can set up playlists, but you cant sub-divide those playlists....You can divide music by artist, album, genre, or any other number of things...Then Itunes will create automatic playlists, and you can create your own....It can be as simple or as complicated as you like...You cant exactly divide it up for 3 people cause all of the music is stored in one segment of the memory...There's really no way to seperate stuff for different people...You can however label the songs however you like...So you can make up plalists, and add songs to each....Like Your Country, Her Rock, Daughters Rap, and so on...then just keep making playlists....

I have a 60GB Ipod Photo....1601 songs, using 27.13 GB...The Ipod photo can store album art for each song....I download stuff almost daily....I wish I had this thing a long time ago...I've wasted ALOT of cd's....Check my gallery to see the mount I made...

I have started looking into this IPOD thing too.

I have ITunes on my computer already. Basically just discovered it. Anyway, I have been downloading some of my CDs into my computer and currently have like 775 songs. I am probably around halfway done.

Questions...........if I buy an IPOD can I just hook it to my computer and download all the songs into the IPOD at one time? Can I then take my IPOD and go download some songs from my sister's extensive collection from her computer too and vice versa from my IPOD? Then, if that is true.....once the songs are loaded on my IPOD from her computer...then couldn't I come back home and put them on my computer effectively doubling my collection? Then, if my computer crashed and it had to be replaced couldn't I just use my IPOD to reload everything back into the new one? Or if my IPOD got damaged or lost, just buy another one and reload it all back on the new IPOD from my computer, right?

And lastly........what is the best method to hook it up in my truck so I can play it through my truck speakers? Would I be better off replacing the stocker stereo and speakers?

Thanks for any help you tech savvy guys can help with. Lots of questions I know, but they all kind of build on each other and im just trying to understand how this all works together.

I haven't use anything but the shuffle, but my personal recomendation is to use one of the OTHER harddrive MP3 players. Anytime you connect the IPod to another computer, it wants to use the new computers play list and that will blow away any music from your previous playlists (Or atleast on a friend shuffle it does). When IPod stores music, it changes the names to a 4 character name making later retrieval a PITA without the playlist used by Itunes.
The full sized Ipods may be different since they support more ready use of other file types, but this has been my experience.

My finding was that i can copy music from someone else's pc to my Ipod, and add it to my collection.....But I lose the new music when I hook it up to my pc again....You cant copy from Ipod to pc...Thats the only limitation...After you set things up, Itunes will download everything in one big dump...It will take a while...Then whenever you add or change something, Itunes will update the Ipod each time you connect it...

As far as your pc pooping out, buy a second hard drive...they are cheap...I have an 80gb hd that holds nothing but music and pix....I currently use 28gb of my 60gb Ipod, and so I have 28gb of music on that hard drive...Windows and all other programs run off C:\ Music, photos, videos and other files are on D:\ (I go all the way to I:\ when I have my flash drives hooked up...) So if windows take a crap, only C:\ is affected, and my huge volume of music and stuff is "safe"....The second hard drive helps prevent problems anyway, since less stuff is crammed on the windows drive....

My second hard drive is internal....You could buy an external hard drive (firewire or USB) They are pretty portable so you could hook it up to your sisters pc and copy all of her music....

My Ipod photo shows full song title, artist, album, all kinds of other stuff, and shows a pic of the album covers if you download them...There is a program that can help you download album art....

There are a bazillion way to hook your Ipod to your car stereo...From FM modulators to hard-wired docking systems....Pick your price...My '06 has a 3mm Aux input on the front of the factory deck...Really nice touch by DC...Thats how mine is hooked up, and it sounds great...

PM me if you need help with it....

I have the nano! Love it! Get the Ipod Headphones. They are soft and form fit to your ear canal real well. It helps to block out noise and the bass is better.

i have the nano, a lot smaller than my older ipod. both are great, the nano gets scratched really easy. my older ipod didn't like the desert heat in iraq, it couldn't handle direct sunlight at 130 degrees, but other than that it held up great to the harsh environment. it was nice having motivating music to listen to when on convoy's, a little "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor", will get anyone pumped up.

I got my girlfriend a 30GB iPod for her birthday and as far as I know she uses it everyday. I use it every once and awhile myself and I think it's great. The screen is a fairly good size, the screen quality is awesome, the sound is great and the games keep me entertained when I get bored.

I know when I bought it I put extended warrenty on the sucker. Technology's great but it's not usually bulletproof.
