I hate cheap tools

It took me 2 hours of cursing trying to tap the exhaust manifold for my pyro. All because my tap was a piece of crap. Finally I went to the hardware store, bought a new tap and in less than 5 minutes I was done. A good tool is worth its weight in gold and cheap tools are as useless asEdit on a bull. Lesson learned.

I agree with you completely.

Good tools literally ARE worth their weight in gold.

And can you please explain to me what profanity EDIT replaced? It's a new one on me...

A bull wouldn't have them, but a grown woman does.

I Buy Craftsman (profesional when it applys) I have full polished wrench sets, and the gear wrenches. Got a nice Snap On 1/2" gun (E-bay $175), the rest of my airtools are Craftsman too. I don't see the need in the Snap on or Mac prices, but I don't work with them everyday or try to make a living with them either. I worked at a Wholesale Nursery with a pretty big Maintenance Dept. There where some guys in that dropped $12,000 on the empty box alone. (thats twelve thousand dollars).

same here... at work, well i have what ever work provided me [proto, armstrong, westward..]

right now if i were building a new tool setup, i would get a double wide roller cab [54" craftsman maybe?] and a single wide 27" 6 drawer top chest [that leaves me a nice work surface on the box] and go with proto & armstrong for the hand tools... IR for the air tools..

I have the remnants of probably 5 different socket sets.

I broke 3 of the big ones trying to get my old shocks off a couple weekends ago.
I twisted the extensions in half years ago.

I really need to just toss it all and get one good set of Craftsmans.

Craftsman tools are the deal of the century! I have lots of them and a few MAC, Snap-on etc, and my craftsmans are just as dependable!! And when I break them I get new ones.

I have a majority of Craftsman, with a few cheapies thrown in. It all depends on the purpose of the tool, some times a cheapie will work.

You really thought that you could curse a threaded hole into your exhaust manifold?!? You must have been cursing a blue streak! I usually just start with a drill bit and tap and save the energy.

I have to agree, Craftsman tools are a great value although at times a cheap tool has its place, particularly when it needs to be cut, ground down, or bent to make it work. Hate to do that to a good Craftsman.

I didn't know Kmart bought them. I know Sears bought Kmart. Any way I've had my Craftsman set for darn near twenty years and the only ones I've broken are the ones I've used the breaker bar on. Great value.

I've only heard of Cornwell Tools . From these folks, they're allright. Anyone with experience. They don't have any prices in nthe website though. I've noticed a tech that works with my uncle has a tool box that looks similar, at a distance, to one of the ones from this website. I never took a good look in the past, but now I'll have to enquire more.

I have a calico set of tools. Almost every brand out there. The imports are just for under the seat sets that I don't care about. The ones I make my living with are american made. I really hate to hear that gut wrenching "SNAP" , then scramble to keep my balance or go get the alcohol and bandaids!!! The best prices I have ever gotten on tool sets are at the pawn shops. Sometimes they have some good tools with decent prices. The lifetime warrantee is always good. I break a lot of tools in my business and try to have brands that I can get replaced right away.
