I think there has to be something wrong with my calculations. That is a monumental gain of power.

As for fusion, that is more then 20 years off. It creates 100 million degrees C of heat when done with just a few atoms. This would mean you need a magnet capable of keeping atoms in one place and still let the energy out. That is about 100 years away at our current rate of energy research. No one wants to invest the trillions of dollars to figure out a way of doing that, not to mention its a chain reaction and if something goes wrong it will make our earth a new sun. Not a good thing.
I don't think it's 100 years off, Maybe 25 at the outside. They've succeeded in producing more energy that they use to "ignite" the hydrogen. It's done with a small pellet and a lot of lasers. The process is feasible all that's left is to scale it up and make it pay off.

OTOH, IMHO hydrogen as a fuel will never be a good alternative because it requires more energy to produce than you get from the burning or fuel cell. It's only possible use would be as a portable energy storage or fueling rocket engines. Diesel engines got it beat hands down.

Ethanol is likewise a bad substitute. The only reason ethanol is even being considered is ADM's lobbyists in Washington.

france and japan is in a joint venture with several euro countries and the u.s.
france got the contract to build the first fusion test reactor.

compressed h2 can be used in all fuel injected engines, h2 vapor can be used in all carburated engines like propane. the problem is all h2 storage tanks leak. this is due to h2 having the smallest molecule,
using solar, wind and hydro power, home h2 production would be cheep.
we don't have to wait for fuel cells.
just someone to build injection mods and vapor carbs.
home h2 production / compresser units are available already in 240 and 110 volt configurations.

WOW all this reminded me off everthing I forgot I really need to get back into school I also believe that a gasoline engine with 100% combustion produces water vapor, but this is not possible even in labs, since it would mean all the heat created is transformed into useable energy. Ie the engine would be able to run without a cooling system since the combustion chamber would not absorb any heat. Adiabatic Process
