Hung out with some Fords!!!!! (Long)
Hung out with some Fords!!!!! (Long)
My brother Drives an 03 SVT Lightning and hangs out with a group of guys that all have L's. So were hanging out and I’m listening to them all talk about their trucks and all the stangs they tear up, so on and so on, when one of the guys ask me what I drive. I took a sip out of my glass of tea and just answered with a casual “Its no lightning. I just drive an ol Dodge 4x4 with a 6 cyl. in it. “He stops for a second and says that he is not up on the dodge vehicles but when did they offer V6 4x4's. So to screw him up a bit more, I told him it wasn’t even a V6 but a Str8 6. My brother kind of laughs and says yup it’s true, a straight 6 and it’s even a little peppy. I swear they all started laughing.
OK 20 minutes later I think I had heard enough goat bashing for one night. I ask who out of all of them had the fasted L. They for the most part seem to be in agreement that my brother had the fastest truck out of all of them. His does have the most work done on it I guess, (Side note. Its got the smallest battery a truck has ever had just to make room for the extremely large coolant resivor he added to keep the thing cool.) I knew I could win that race and my brother helped me out by saying his truck wasn't doing any racing tonight. His belt was getting a bit worn and didn't want to risk it. So now I have another guy step up to the plate. 2002 SVT Lightning, he claims 450 HP. And tells me he can put 10 lengths on me in the quarter and drops a $100.00 bill on the table. My brother tells him to just do it for free; I guess he wanted to help his friend out too. I tell him that if he wants to bet money on it that I am ok with that but its not needed. He insists and asks his buddies if they want in on the wager. I told them I wasn't that rich. I don't want my brother to get accused of screwing his friends. In the end I couldn't talk him out of the money bet and he was then telling me I knew I couldn't hang since I wanted a free race.
An hour later were at the Track. Not Baytown, but an old closed down road in the middle of nowhere. I didn't want to be part of any road racing. (As a kid I saw too many accidents and one death at a local street racing spot. In Houston It used to be Rankin Road @ Goodnight Trail.) I ask one more time if he wants to do it for free. No way, he really thought he would beat me by 10 lengths. So I ask one more time just to make sure of the wager. Does he have to beat me by 10 to win or just beat me? He tells me If he can’t put at least 3 lengths on me I win the money. Now at this time I am thinking what a sucker. He already admits my brothers truck is faster than his and I have already beat my brothers truck so how bad should I let him have it. We stand there a few more minutes while he checks the tire pressure in his tires, and takes a few things out of his truck bed to get it lighter. While they are doing this I am just standing watching them with my brother smiling. (You might have thought it was John Force’s Crew.) The other guys start talking about smoked goat and what not. That was it. I walk over to my truck and pull out the Bully Dog. I disable TQ Mgmt. which took about 5 minutes to reload and it was on.
Take off: I boost launched in 4x4 hi with 15psi Right Front tire chirps. ( Asphalt) And the L is sitting on the starting line spinning the tires. (I was expecting that.)
Second gear: I look in rear view mirror. He is moving and about 5 lengths behind me. (Usually my brother is only 1 to 1.5) and I hear his truck hit second gear and catch rubber.)
Third gear. He is still behind me but now even further. I can see his lights better now though as my black smoke has cleared up. He catches rubber again I think. I could be wrong about that though. I was real excited.)
Fourth gear and TC locked. I pull some more on him (not as much any more) and just let off before the end of the Quarter. As I Turn off the main and on the road back I hear him spin around and haul it back to the rest of the guys. I take it nice and slow letting my EGT's comes back down. When I get back my brother hands me his cash and they all wanted to know how I made a Diesel run like that.
Guess they don't pay attention to the new diesels these days.
Oh and by the way they guy, tried to tell me that my brother’s truck runs a 12.5 in the quarter and his is 12.9 in the quarter. I told him he was full of it when I got back Cuz I am sure my truck is no where near a 12 second truck. Well maybe near but not 12 yet. (Or maybe I have no real idea how fast or slow my truck is.) I will update my sig with the rest of my mods soon.
I have to admit though in an all out run to top speed those L’s are fast. He would have eventually caught me. I’m sure of that.
Edited: It was late when I typed this. I made a few grammar and spelling changes.

Yeah, I had a little exchange with our Battalion Operations Sergeant (55 year old Master Sgt) claiming he could smoke mine with his (apparently) bone stock Bowtie 1500 Classic. I told him, give me 5 minutes (to bump up my smarty settings to SW5) and you're toast. We never raced. I don't think he believed me. I can't wait to put the Ally in this thing next fall.

I talked to my brother this morning. Now that guy is saying he got a bad start and wants run again. I have just installed an MP8 and had 90 horse DDPs installed, Fass 150. That was in there when we raced the first time. For my next mod I am stuck between a set of Twins, ( I do tow with this truck) or a CP3. Can't afford both right now.

Nice kill
