How posting works on DTR...

From reading a lot of threads here on DTR I have found that most of them work like the following:

The following is just an example, but shows how many threads go...

1 user posts a thread about fixing the KDP problem, and is asking about whether or not the windshield washer tank needs to be removed. The poster then goes to pick his kid up from school.

The first user to reply reads the topic title and the first sentence and replies that the tab is the way to go.

2 more users reply saying that the tab is a waste of time and that the jig is faster.

The next user actually reads the whole post and comes up with a meaningful reply.

3 more posts quickly come in bashing the 2 people that say that the jig is better.

The next post comes from a guy telling the story of how long it took to tab his KDP, along with all the details including the ounces of antifreeze lost down to the nearest 1/10th of an ounce.

Following that reply, the 2 users, ages 10 and 12 (though who claim to be 25 and 47, respectively), come in saying that their 3rd Gen 12v trucks had the K1LL3R DOW3L P1N problem solved by using the newest function of their Smarty beta v0.0000000000000000000000000001alphaomega.

The next user replies with a NO in 40 point font.

The next posts are by the wanna-be moderator trolls that bash the previous poster for using an oversize font, and restate the forum rules, highlighting the appropriate sections in hot-pink lettering.

The next user posts pictures of what happened when the KDP fell out in his timing case.

The next post is by a different user who actually took those pictures, and tells the previous poster to not use his images without his permission.

The user that originally posted the pictures then replies saying that IT WAS JUST AN EXAMPLE.

--PAGE 2--

The next post comes from a new user who quotes the picture-stealing poster's first post, including the pictures, only to take up half of the next page, and only to add the words "wow that sux ".

The next post is by a moderator who politely steps in and asks everyone to stay on topic.

Then a couple of the borderline-almost-got-banned members chime in saying that the discussion is relevant and that the moderator is way out of line.

Finally an administrator locks the topic, obviously quite angry about what happened.

12 minutes later, the administrator receives nasty PMs from the borderline-banners about how much he sucks and how DTR sucks and the other forum is much better.

And lastly, the original poster returns home from picking his kid up. Round Trip Time: 17 minutes.

sad, but sometimes true.
One thing I see on here alot that really aggrevates me alot is when some new guy who is just getting into cummins and is new to the site with his first post(which was me just a few months ago) asks a simple question about something say kdp or fuel pump stuff and rather than get an answer he gets 10 replies from people saying "this has been beat to death, search for it and stop wasting our time" everybody just gets mad that he even asked that and doesnt help him at all, thats kinda the reason I'm here alot, to learn and help people when I can, were all friends here arent we? I got a response like that on one of my first posts. I didnt even know there was a search tool then. Its people like that who give the rest of us a bad name. At least try to be nice and polite, you dont know who's on the other end of the keyboard. I like knowing that I may be able to help somebody with something that I know cause someday the shoe may be on the other foot and I may need help on something I dont know much about. Sorry, I had to let that out its been bugging me for a while.

You forgot a thing or two...

Right after...
12 minutes later, the administrator receives nasty PMs from the borderline-banners about how much he sucks and how DTR sucks and the other forum is much better.
administrator receives 3 more emails about 1st Amendment rights, deletes another thread started by hacked off member about said rights then, after getting cussed out twice, goes back and bans hacked off member. I don't recall you mentioning the two or three fellows that remind everyone about the search feature.

Amen.

I've been parts of many forums related to fourwheelers, trucks, cars, anything and everything to do with automotive products.

And the amount of questions that get asked are questions that have been covered thousands of times and people ring their neck to "Search the Forum".

I do not like this method of "helping" if you will because I feel that it offers no real help to the original question asked.
Any mature well minded human who knows how to run a computer and is familiar w/ forums knows how to use the search. And if they knew I'm 65% sure they would, the other 35% goes for the people who are lazy...
I just get a bad vibe and it doesn't kill me to take 2mins of my time to do the search for them and post a link to the thread, or quote it..

Ace and Trout, I agree with you 100%. It FRUSTRATES me to no end when people hammer new members for asking a question. I don't care how many times it's been asked. Number one, this site was built for that very purpose, to answer questions. Number two, a lot of these guys seem to have forgotten where they came from. This is my site and I want people to feel comfortable asking questions. If you make my users feel as though they can't ask a question here, you are the one that will be gone. It's happened before. The worst one was a kid from Texas who for some reason thought he should tell our users how to operate. Now he's gone, and of course talking smack about us on other forums. Go figure.

It would be pretty boring around here without newbies asking questions. The search function is a great tool but it rarely helps you find what you need without having to search through 100s of topics.

Exactly.... I tend to refer peopel to the search feature when asnwering questions, but I try to give them teh parameters to search within in order to find the info they are lookign for..
in other words if someone posts " i don tknow this" , i try to steer them to the info that will anser them..

I am way to ignorant myself to ever think anyone should be put down for asking a question.......

It's frustrating on other sights to try to search for something and you end up with a millon pages of people ordering somebody prior to use the search feature.

if you really want frustration, go to ar15.com and try to search.
you get one search per minute, subject only, only bottom level of the forums and for the last 30 days.

Most large forums really are trying to be nicer to n00bs.

I just reported your post/thread to the mods/admins because I don't like it and I'm using the argument of it goes against my rights per the Constitution of my United States of America...Why? Because I went to quote it and I couldn't add an emoticon because it put me over the limit for images.

I deleted one of yours.

I am one of those new menbers who asked some dump questions. All of my questions were answered and a couple of times I even got PM's to ensure I understood. I think this is the best web site that I have ever been involved with.
Thanks to Jack Thorpe and all the mods who keep it going.
