I would rather ride backwards, thats for sure. Unfortunately I see the bus a lot more than the engine with my medic card

Jon / Franklin Grove FPD/ Franklin Grove/ Volly/ Newbie

We have lotsa land out here and farmers. We have a 78 Dodge Munitions Carrier (1 1/2 ton?) with a turbo-less Continental Engine. Has a 250 GPM pump with a 18 HP V-twin Briggs and stratton pumping to 2 1-3/4" water cannons on the back. 5spd and it is a 6X6 They have mowed over 4 inch trees that were 20 ft tall to put out a tree fire next to a campground. They story goes that all the other departments had brand spanking new pumper trucks and didn't wanna get them scratched!!

i like riding backwards becuase like said before you get to play, but i also like driving because it has its own set of challenges. a good E/O does alot more than getting water to the nozzle. plus i get so tired of getting dressed going to auto alarm after auto alarm in the middle of the night!

Where I am there are times during the day where I am the OIC, driver, Extrication tech and landing zone officer all on the same call, which actually happened last week . As far as drive or ride and play I would much rather play although being a Deputy Chief the only time that I get to play any more is at MVA's .
