how to fix loss of PSI in Evap System?

Buddy has a Tacoma with the code "Vapor Cannister is cracked" or something - per dealer

regardless, it's prolly losing PSI in the Fuel Evap system, just like the code when you leave the cap off.

how can we check this to see if the hoses are good, besides soapy water?

is there a little PSI system to pressurize the Evap system and monitor the drop rate of PSI?

or am i off base?

1999 TOYOTA TACOMA V6 3.4 Liter FI

Vapor Canister

www.Toyotacheapparts.com has it for ~197 or so, 260 from dealer

You pretty much have to use one of those smoke machines they have to check it with. Its a low pressure system. The machine fills the system with a thick white smoke and you just look for where ever its coming out. I dont work on cars, but it has been my experiance that when you are having this problem, espeacially on a newer vehicle, the gas cap it self is the most likley culprit. It may look ok, but it may be venting and causing the problem.

Yes there is a tool for that, but it is a very good idea that you dont go above 1 psi, this are somewhat fragile systems. But its basicly a hand pump that you can check to see if the systems leaks. Its the green capped (or should be) schrader valve under the hood. If anything leaks you need to replace.
