Thumbs down How dumb is this???

Ok, so I'm up late with a vicious toothache and decide to take my mind off of it by looking up truck stuff online... well, Im looking at truck caps/shells when I came across this monstrosity... http://www.snugtop.com/p_xuv.htm

I just don't get it... You take a perfectly good giant-sized SUV, hack the back off and make it into a half truck/half SUV... pay at least as much, if not more for the modified version (including the ugly plastic body cladding and Hong Kong Fooey front clip). Then turn around and buy a hard top aftermarket shell to fill the void of the part that was hacked off in the beginning, thereby turning it back into the original (albiet even uglier) giant sized SUV you could have had in the first place, however now not nearly as plush or convenient, yet now you are into it for an additional couple thou$and. I guess their (Snugtop & GM since they apparently endorse this product) philosophy must be that if anybody is dumb enough to buy a Chevy, especially the ugly Avalanche... then they must be dumb enough to buy this product, thereby ruining the vehicle's intended flexibility and taking away it's niche in the market.

Sorry for the rant... my pain killer (Captian Morgan) is starting to set sail!!

Anyways, just thought others might find this interesting/amusing/entertaining...

I think you and the Captain have a good point. Seems like a stupid idea to me too.

I have a friend who went out to buy a new Chevy right after the Avalanche came out. The salesman took Billy to an Avalanche and proudly told him this was the latest and greatest. He took Billy to the back of the truck and had him look at all the trim on the back and proudly announced that it was genuine plastic. Billy told him what he could do with the plastic trim and went elsewhere.

I hate to admit this, actually I don't it's my Dad's truck.

He did exactly like the picture shows, dumbest thing I ever saw. Hopefully he's not on this site sneakin' around. With all do respect to my Father, I kept my mouth shut and said, "Man, that sure looks good!!!"

That's what he told me when I brought him a picture frame with noodles painted in gold for fathers day. It's about time I could return the favor, took almost 4 months now Funny how things come full circle...

Yeah, I feel for you Tom... this is something I can totally see my dad doing as well. His judgement is slipping as he gets up there in years. I just hope it's not genetic!!

I have felt the same way about these so called "sport utility trucks". Jack of all trades and master of none!

The worst is the Explorer Sport Trac. You can put 5 people in it and have NO room for their stuff (unless you want it in an open bed getting wet or blowing around). Or you can put two tablespoons of dirt in that 1'X 2' bed and make 75 trips for your next gardening project.

Then, like you said, you can put a $1000 cap on it and make it back to what it started out as in the first place.

Hey guys, remember this is some of that better GM engineering you keep seeing in the commercials.

And, doesnt' SUV stand for Super Ugly Vehicle or is it Supremely Useless Vehicle.

OOOPs probably started trouble there!

how dumb is it?

once you buy an Avalanche, I don't think there are any other levels of "dumb" you can sink to... therefore, the snug top is just as dumb as the Avalanche...

no offense to anyone's father of course!

Oh but there is always the AZTEK.

Kinda looks like a Geo Metro, a Grand Am, and a Avalanche were placed in a blender on High.

I know of a couple more levels you can sink to.

Putting a 10inch lift on your Avalanche fer instance.

Then top it off by putting 21 inch wheels with spinners.
(ok, pic doesn't have spinners, but still)
