How do big rigs make that "PSHHHHHH" sound?

Yes it is the air dryer. It is controlled by the air governor on the air compressor.

Discharge line comes off air compressor and goes to the air dryer, the air governer is mounted to the air compressor with two 1/4 airlines, one goes to the air dryer and the other goes to the wet tank, not only does it keep the system dry, but once the truck builds air pressure up to 125psi you will hear that pssssssh sound, what it is actually doing is kicking the air governor in and cutting the compressor bank, the compressor only runs wide open when there is a drop in air pressure , once it builds back up to 125psi you will hear it again. just my .02
