How to deter truck thieves
How to deter truck thieves
9 times out of ten a car or truck thief will stakeout a vehical long before he attempts his crime. Let him know who he's messing with. I was raised in the stix 30 min from the nearest city so crime was never an issue growing up. That all changed when I started working in the inner city. I just took my country roots to the city and never had a problem.
This has always worked for me. (click on pic)

That's a nice looking gun...1100? 20 gauge?
The only problem (other than legality in certain areas) is that you're likely to have guys breaking in the truck for the gun as much as for the other stuff in the truck.

farmdiesel,
870 express super mag 12ga 3 1/2 inch chamber
not a bad turkey gun

I have the same one only with the 8 shot mag extention. They used to do that here too, still could, but it would not last 24 hours. More gun thefts here than stereo thefts. On the other hand, keys are in all my vehicles and lawn tractor, never lock the house. Course my Collie/Akita is also a deterrant. When I'm home he sleeps under the truck. I do agree though, everyone here knows that I always carry, makes a difference. They like the easy targets.

Re:How to deter truck thieves
That's a GREAT way to get your truck broken into...just for the sake of stealing the shotgun. I hide anything valuable in my truck WELL out of site. If they can't see anything of value then chances are they won't break into it...unless it's the vehicle itself they're wanting.

Hey Cal, now I see why you want to come to Montana. You would be very welcome here!
All of my neighbors fear me cause on any given day I'm on my way to the range with one of my many, and I don't put them in cases to hide them from the neighbors. I really offend many of the soccer mom's on my street!

This is totally OT so please excuse:
Hey there CTDinMT, how do you like MT? Have you lived there all of your life? What do you do there for a living? I was out there last winter and have thought hard about moving out there. Maybe to the Bozeman area? I did not like Missoula much but I liked Bozeman. Don't know about Great Falls at all! Unfortunately I didn't get to see enough of it or anywhere else in the state. But from what I did see, it was really beautiful and I don't know, something about it caught my interest. I am pretty much a city slicker (10 minutes outside of NYC) but love being in the middle of nowhere!
Unfortunately I don't think I'd be able to afford my $30K truck out there (and I really love this thing) but for the quality of life it'll bring me it may be worth it?!?!?!
(I'd "settle" for a used 2nd gen 4x4!)
Thanks for the info.

the gun only works if its in your hands...they'll break in to steal the gun...lol

And on top of that, if you try to drive on to nuclear power plant property with that (like I do six days a week), you will get to see the business end of an M16 or two or three real close.
(tip o' the day, if you see the flash from the barrell, it's too late to duck)

Re:How to deter truck thieves
You know, I went to junior high and high school in a very small town, and we used to leave our .22's in the racks of our trucks all the time. I can only imagine what would happen nowadays if some kid showed up with a rifle in the rack in his/her pickup. Probably get tossed directly in jail.

good theft deterrant:
a couple well placed "Marine Corps Sniper" stickers.

No sniper stickers, but my hitch plug is an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. Got the ol' NRA sticker on the rear window, too.
