Hooking multiple inverters in series.
Hooking multiple inverters in series.
So I have several 110 AC inverters, or atleast I have an 800 watt continuous and 2 400 watt continuous power inverters. Could I wire these together to give me 1600 watts???
I know there are many members who are electrically inclined, (which aint me)
Help a brother out......

bear in mind, 1600 Watts is about 120 Amps.
Ohter than needing 250 kcmil wire, you need a way to sync the sine wave from each inverter.
As far as the generators go, most of the highend gen sets have a communications cable to connect several sets together and then one will control all the engines.

There should be only one leader, but there can be multiple followers in a group of people, or paralleled inverters, trying to accomplish a task.
Usually this capability is found only in the highest quality brands and models of inverters
BUT in saying that,... LIke FRONTY said, Some of the newer inverter type portable generators are specifically designed to be paralleled with another like generator to deliver double the watts. They recognize each other and combine their power in exact step or "phase" with each other's inverter.
Smaller conventional unsynchronized generators can sometimes be brute-force paralleled but you'll get some interesting effects when they are slamed together like that

NEVER, EVER, try that with big unsynch'ed generators
You might find out just how strong the genset's motormounts should have been!

Thanks, I think I get it.
The inverters are Cobra, I forget the model #'s
Thought it may be possile since I hear of people hooking two of those cheap Chinese "Champion" generatrs they sell at Costco together.
Thanks for the explanations.
