I did the RV gates too. Each one is a bifold and eleven feet long.
Had old shutter style windows here that you could see the blinds and curtains flapping when closed. No heat ducts in the finished basement because the furnace leaked so much heat, none were needed. After we put the new furnace in we added 4 ducts and 2 cold air returns.

Before we did the insulation and new stucco, there would be ice 1-3" high up the north walls. Even frost behind my pillow.
Maybe you are spending too much money on 9 volt batteries in your quest with the go cart.
BAM! KUBOTA STRIKES!

I can handle my $1200.00 a year also but your missing the point. I know we all need to pay taxes to support our schools & community but being tied to home ownership should not be one of them. Eleminate personal income tax along with property tax & have a flat tax or a sales tax on a local & national level than everyone would be contributing. Even the illegals the self employed, the visitors to our country & community. The rich would be paying a fairer share because the more your wealth the more you spend. There would be a steadier stream of $$ comming into the system & eliminate the general public from having to keep records or look for deductions or loop holes. Yes it would put the burden on buisnesses to keep track of the $$ comming in as to how much needs to be paid out in taxes. However i feel it would eliminate alot of unneccesary record keeping. X amount of $$$ comming in = x amount of $$ to go to taxes.
Ok tax rant off. Sorry to the OP on getting side tracked from his original intent of this post.

Dang! I have to pay over $3500.00 this year, and my home sits on a postage stamp! And I get the homestead exemption & disabled vet exemption! But at least my home is paid for! Nothing like that for a good feeling!

Yeah, Like tanker I can handle the $1300 I pay here but some of the stuff my tax is based on is rediculous. Luckily, in our area, after you turn 65 you get a break on taxes up to 500K if its your primary residence.
I live rural & the fire dept is all volunteer the road doesnt get paved or graded unless the neighbors pitch in & in 28 yrs only two of them out of 5 have. The schools are where are tax base mostly goes & I don't have kids in school & even they don't spend $$ wisely. We do have one deputy on duty 24/7 that covers a 100 mile radius.
Just closed on my house first house in November. been interesting to say the least, gonna need a new roof, the siding wasnt done very well so that'll need to be addressed in the future, windows are decent tilt ins, gas furnace is only 4 years old, hot water heater is very old. I have already replaced all the interior doors, new door casings, base and crown molding. Trying to save money for the material so I can build the new kitchen cabinets (helps that thats what i do for a living) already have the corian sheets for the counter tops, just need the cherry plywood for the boxes and cherry solid for faceframes and doors.
I consider myself very lucky that although Im almost struggling to make ends meet since I bought the house, at least I've had the opportunity to buy a house and make some changes for the better to it.
Edit, Here in NJ on my 1000 sq ft home situated on a 100x150' lot taxes are $4000 annually. My parents live just a few miles from me, 100x75' lot with a 2900 sq ft home-----$14000 annually, their taxes went up 40% since last year

Guess I shouldnt complain about my taxes anymore. Its always a little sad to see the old places get torn down. The house my Dad was born in along with all his brothers and sisters got torn down about 10 years ago. He retrieved a piece of the redwood siding from it as a momento.

We had a coal boiler for heat.
There's a new house right on top of the same site. They just finished it.
America is funny, we bulldoze so much of our history just because its convenient... Ive been to a lot of places that would look at a 200 year old house as the new one on the block and have made the repairs.
Ive probably mentioned it before, I was in a pub in the UK, the bar was over 400 years old. they just moved it from pub to pub. The building it was in at that time has been in continuous operation for some 150 years...
