home defense

being that we are in tough times and desperate people can do desperate things to feed there families and survive . what do you do? what can you use? what do local laws say in your area? can you secure your home?

me personally i have an alarm, cctv and i advertise that fact along with a guard dog on duty sign. i also being a welder have custom bars on basement windows in the back and sides of the house. i have no bars on the front basement windows but i do have 2'x3' 3/4 inch plywood with 3" spikes every 2" over the entire area below each front window. both front and rear door frames are steel reinforced with custom decorative steel doors dead bolted. for the rear door being that there are stairs 3' away and going up i have a 4"x4"x3' chunk of hard wood for when i am out. the front of the house faces a main road so that is a the week point but a less than desirable entrance for criminals.

if something does happen i have the items pictured below. in canada you are not allowed to use a fire arm for protection ever!!! or you are at risk of long prison sentences. but who is to say that the criminal didn't bring that gun in with him and during the ensuing struggle was shot dead...that being a worst case scenario.

Lincoln my 95pd 10 month old intact male akita.
he has been friendly with all but one person that came to my home and another who approached us on the street, but i felt the same way so no issue there. he alerts to any one approaching the house and barks loud until told to sit. if i am out i assume he does the same thing. he can also clean up a half rack of deer ribs leaving no evidence that it was ever there in about 20 minutes sternum bone and all.

but i bet the racking of a 12 ga pump with a rail attached lite and laser combo, would probably get all but dedicated criminals to flee with out incident if one ever got in the house. not that this would happen, due to the fact that my doors are always locked. my goverment figures that should be enough. but they also think that giving preditory criminals early releases and day passes to the kiddie park are good ideas

Thank god i live in Texas and firearms are allowed to be used in self defense, i have a single shot 20 gage by the back door for coyotes and just to give the criminals a chance if they came in that way because god knows they will need it haha .
I also have a Dogo that i think i would rather be shot than locked down on by his jaws. Make sure that shotgun is not registered under your name or the whole "guy had the gun when he broke in" thing probably would not work. haha, i like that shotgun though, thats nice.

Is that a lawmakers joke? Kind of hard to stand trial if you are dead. I wonder if the same law applies to them?

I applaud your preventive actions (legal or not) to protect your family.
After shooting the criminal-let the dog eat him. Like you said no evidence

Ya i don't get that either. I was talking to my buddies up there about visiting and do a little hunting and they were very persistent about me making sure i do not bring a pistol haha. Seems like they got some weird laws.

Yup. Gotta love Texas. Just don't shoot them in the back cuz it looks like they were running away. Shoot on the porch and lay them in the doorway

Sounds like wyoming is similar to texas!!!! Thieves go missing round here all the time, there is a story going around that there's a few horse wranglers buried next to the river up from my place.

I got a nice long driveway I can see em coming down. Out here, they don't even have to be in your home, just on your property.

If you get em in the back, just roll them over put one in the chest as well. 1st one spun him, the second one finished him!!! Sweeeeeet

Just don't use reloaded ammo in home defense, EVER!!!!!!!!!

yeah i am a big fan and some what jealous of the castle law or Defense of Habitation Law. is this in all states or only texas? justifiable homicide which is a concept derived from English Common Law so sayith Wikipedia. so why not canada we are a coman wealth nation it SHOULD apply here.

yeah TXboy a throw away gun would be best unregistered with no similar rounds in the house and never posted on the web but that would be ilegal here aswell so i dont have one of those

Are you saying Canada won't let you protect yourself with a firearm if you are being attacked by an intruder??????? GEESSSH!!!!

In Texas we now have the "Castle Doctrine" law....that basically says you have no duty to retreat at all. It applies to your vehicle as well. If you are being attacked, robbed, whatever.......blow em away. They deserve it and you can legally give it to them if certain conditions are met. Which is exactly the way it should be........USA, Canada, or wherever, imo.

"Criminal codes in many countries include self defense as a legitimate justification for the use of deadly force. On the other hand, the right of self defense threatens the rule of law. It is too easy for revenge or even aggression to be confused with legitimate self defense"

"In Canada, the key provision in the criminal code is that no one may use "more force than is necessary" and then only when "he believes on reasonable grounds that he can not otherwise preserve himself from death or grievous bodily harm." In section 35, the code goes on to require that one must show that, "he declined further conflict and quitted or retreated from it (the assault) as far as it was feasible to do so before the necessity of preserving himself ... arose." Moreover, the right to use physical force to defend non*family members is more limited than it is in many states, as are a Canadians' rights to repulse trespassers on one's own property, or to use force to stop the commission of serious or violent crimes "

Recent firearms legislation now requires firearms to not only be unloaded when stored in one's residence but must also be put under lock and key. Judging from news reports, many of those who use a firearm to defend themselves, are charged with one or more criminal violations ** unsafe storage, careless use of firearm, or possession of a prohibited weapon ** and then they have to prove in court that the firearm had been used in self defense.

the reason i have posted this is because a Friend of mine just finished a two year less a day sentance of which he served 18months for manslaughter... he used a steak knife to defend against an intruder and had no criminal history but the intruder did

You can do pretty much what you want up here, and plenty of places to get rid of the body/ies.

He's just uncocked.

So they don't let you defend your home? Where do you run if you can't run for home?
