Question HighPoint Firearms 9mm?'s

OK-----I just bought a 27 .40 Glock and I'm looking into buying a plinking gun for fun weekend shooting. My brother has a 9mm HighPoint Pistol and Carbine that are fun to shoot. I can get one for $125 (Pistol) and was wondering what problems anyone on here are having with these as far as reliability, and major problems. I have heard that there Customer Service is great?!

Thanks, JB

I bought a used 9mm carbine from a buddy and have had no problems with it. It's a fun little gun to have around and it's fairly cheap to shoot.

As long as you are aware that you are getting what you pay for, you should do alright. It will never compare with the Glock in any fashion, but to just go bang when you feel like it, they can fill that role.

If it were me, I would put that money into something better, but it just depends what you are really after. Highpoint seems to take care of their customers, so in that respect you are OK.

look into the S&W sigma series IIRC i have a 9mm and a 40 cal that are identical..... and they look and feel like a glock, even down to the trigger safety, it's a little more than 250..... closer to 325-350 depending on who you know.... i bought mine from my old job at a pawnshop.... brand new it was 300 my cost after still paying a little bit of a mark up..... i love both of mine they shoot great..... my models are SW9VE and SW40VE mine is satin stainless and black but you can get them in olive drab....

I have one. Its my point blank hunting carry gun.
As others have mentioned, its got a big frame.
It doesn't like hallow points in the top three of a full mag.
The gun uses a heavy slide to absorb recoil of the 9mm (kinda like a .22 LR autoloader works)
I have put a few hundred thru it and the ramp into the barrel is starting to look rough.
I have pulled paper targets at 50 yrds that the bullet went thru sideways.
On a positive note, they are dirt simple guns. the barrel is fixed to the frame so in theory its more accurate.

I want one of the HI Piont .40 carbines.
I'm working in flag, AZ and none of the shops will order one.
The pistols have a great rep as being cheap, but always work.
Kinda like having a brick that'll throw a bullet down range.

How is the trigger pull on those Sigmas out of the box? Have you had any work done to them?

I purchased 3 SW99VE's at a gun show a few years back. They were Mexican Police editions that the government couldn't afford so SW went to their distributors to get rid of them in a hurry. I bought the last three they had for $285 a piece. They shot fine, but the trigger pull was ridiculous.
I had a blister on the tip of my index finger from one magazine! I dropped those suckers like a bad habit and will never pick one up again.

Yes they have a big frame on all of there models. I haven't shot the .40 in the HighPoint but I have shot the 9mm of my brothers. From 35-40' they are dead accurate. I wonder what type of Hollow Point round you are shooting???? My brother and I have put 4 to 500 rounds through his in the last 2 weeks and besides a couple of jams the thing goes bang everytime. I just wonder if I should go ahead and get something of better quality------or just use there LifeTime Warranty to the better???????????

I bought a box of winchester hallow points, shot about 10, jammed about 1/2 of those so I gave the box to a buddy with a ruger.

HMMMMmmmmm???? You know----we had the same problem and it was found that my brother had installed the spring cap in the clip backwards and it would not allow the first couple of bullets to feed right. I wonder if that was the same issue with yours??

dunno, it seemed to be the first two or three rounds in two different clips. Never had that problem out of FMJ and I haven't taken my clips apart.

OK well I was just wondering if that could have been the issue. The FMJ's do shoot allot better in his gun as far as accuracy goes. What year model is yours, and does yours have hte adjustable sights???
