Well, it was a funny read, but the author totally missed what the car and it's functions are all about.
First, the IMA(electric motor) is totally silent-at any given speed. As for the leaves. I agree, they are cheesy, but are intended to show mpg progress-the more leaves the better the mpgs for the trip. As for the road noise, that would be typical of a car with reduced weight. Honda skimps on sound bat to save weight
I'm not trying to win ya all over with this car, I just feel it got biased review
(flame suit on)

In that case, then yes I would agree that the insight II falls short. Definately in terms of options. I still would question a few reveiws about some of the mechanical aspects of the artical. The one thing that gets me-with any artical on hybrids is most "test drivers" (and consumers)miss the whole point on what these cars are ment to acheive, good mpgs

But there's a trade off, $25k just to achieve 60mpg (most likely will never happen in the real world of driving as the Prius owners have found out) when a $10k cheaper version can achieve up to 40mpg in real world driving, even more with a diesel version eco box. Let's face it, $10k can buy a lot of fuel, and factor in the MPG difference the owner will probably never see the ROI (return on investment) with the minimal fuel savings for the life of the vehicle.

yep, 10k is a lot of fuel. And that difference is why Honda thought they would dominate the market. But, unfortunately, the dealers love love to mark up above sticker( allegedly Honda is fiercely going after those that do). And the fact that Honda and Toyota insist that you just drive like normal and you get this huge mpg. If I drove my gen1 insight in absolute normal fashion I would be around 50mpg. You honestly need to relearn& rethink the way you drive to get those higher mpgs( I'm not talking about hypermileing). Can a prius, insight get 60-70-80mpg? Sure. but I would bet that those that do are "veteran hybrid owners". The average joe will never see it with out a decent change in habits.
And the ROI. Your absolutely correct, most never even think about that.
And why the manufacturers still don't give us a diesel option is stupid to me. I could only imagine the mpg potental I could get

Actually, it's the other way around. Take a look at a first gen prius. It closely resembles a echo. The gen 2 changed and looked more like a gen1 insight. The rear of a prius is almost identical, just taller. You do have to visualize a bit, remove fender skirts, make longer, add a rear seat. Or imagine a big crx.
As areodynamics are concerned. The shape is about as good as you can get (why both honda and toyota use it). Even the ugly rear(of both cars) has function. Google "komm therory"(iirc).
I do see where you're coming from though
