Help on shpping something

Im just wondering how you all ship things and whats the cheapest route to go. I just bought a bumper off a guy on ebay and the shipping is about 100 bucks (thats what we are getting quoted). But on other wesites selling aftermarket bumpers it is only 40. Just wondering how you guys would go about shipping something this big. Its coming from texas going to south florida. Ups seems like it would be the way to go but is there a trick to getting it cheaper that im missing?

The biggest issue is volume. I do freight where I work, and the more you ship, the better the price. UPS to Florida for a bumper is probably your best best. Just be sure to pay attention to the size calculator and weight. Over 70 lbs. they add a surcharge. The other problem is it's going to Florida. Not much comes out of Florida, so there are few deals going to Florida. The best option I have to Florida is ACT Transportation, but it would probably be more than UPS. Good Luck.

If you have the dimensions and the weight, go to the shipper's website to figure the cost...Something like a bumper may be over the size limit for some shippers but you will find out the cost if it's shippable...I'm unfamiliar with other shippers, but UPS will allow you to pay for (with a CC) and print a shipping label on their site...You can even email the label to the shipper if you like......Ben

Try shipping Greyhound bus lines. I shipped two van doors one time. You'll need to pack/box it yourself and check the allowable shipping size dimensions but they'll do it!

I know from my dealings with selling stuff on ebay. It might cost $40 for UPS to ship it but you might not be accounting for packing the seller has to buy in order to ship it to you.
Just my 2 cents

I know I'm rather late here but with family health problems, a killer work schedule and just plain HOT, I've been distracted. I've shipped a lot of parts to Australia via several methods and the most cost effective for parts is USPS air mail freight. A friend in Oz bought a 1959 Chevy pickup that had been updated inside but was mechanically original. I offered to go look at it but he didn't want to bother me. After several weeks of waiting, it got in country, went through customs and MOT (I'll never complain about US inspectors again) he drove it home only to nearly ram his '59 Dodge car. It would turn right okay but not turn left. A trip to the panel beaters (repair shop) and removal of the drain plug and water and chunk of metal came out of the steering gear.

I found a gear assembly locally (1959 is an oddball year, very hard to find) and looked at shipping down under. FedEx and UPS both wanted between $700-900 to ship it. At the post office, it was 5 pounds under the maximum weight for air frieght. At a cost of $160, it went in it's own mail bag and got there in 5 days as opposed to 6-8 weeks. By the way, FedEx handles the frieghtage for the USPS. So, check with the post office to see if it would be faster/cheaper to ship your bumper. You will need to package it but you have to do that anyway.
