Help, need a new Texas address

For years I have used the Texas address of a friend to register a couple of vehicles I own. He is now moving from Texas, so am losing that service. Anybody have any suggestions as to where I can find a company or whatever in southern Texas in the vicinity of Laredo, San Antonio or Austin and vicinity to use as an address for my Texas plated vehicles? A postal box is easy to get, but not legal for vehicle registration, so require a street address.

In case anybody is wondering, I need a US address to register my vehicles as I can't import them into Mexico just yet. The present laws require a vehicle to be exactly (not older or newer) 10 years old before it can be legally imported. So my 2001 Pathfinder can be imported in 2011 and my truck in 2013. Until then I have rely on Texas friends to allow me to use their home address for vehicle registration. I can use the address of another friend in Dallas, but that is a long way to go annually just to obtain the annual DMV stickers and am looking for something closer to the border. I need Texas registration for my truck, my Pathfinder and a RV.

I can, but I'm smack in between Austin and Houston which is stretching it, and as long as I don't get in trouble. PM if you'd like.

Why not? I checked and as I am still traceable, I am not breaking any laws. Bending them a bit maybe, but I am not trying to evade anything legally.
By using the home address of a friend I am more traceable to the law (DMV) than by using a commercial service.

I would search for Registered Agents in the area you want. Even if you don't own a Corporation they could probably still help.

If you own a corporation you have to have a physical address they can serve papers too etc etc. A registered agent gives you an address so you can keep your locations of business a little more annonymous or you could be working out of your truck but don't want to use your home address. The registered agent is your corporate legal address.

This way you won't have to bother friends or drive extra, you can just go to brownsville or laredo or whatever.

Heck I move so much that I can't remember where my truck is registered. I just show up at a random tax office and register the truck. I actually had it registered in Galveston County last time. Since I was working down there I noticed it was past due at lunch and ran down to the tax office and got it done. Didn't even have an insurance card on me .

Now I think it is registered in Harris or Montgomery county.

That is not a problem. The problem comes when I head north and my safety certificate (emmisions) or whatever it is called is out of date. That can only be renewed at a certified station in the county that the vehicle is registered and Dallas is a long way to drive just to get that done.

When you get your inspection just sign that affidavid saying you moved out of whatever emissions county it is registered in.... I had to deal with this in college every year. Brazos = non emissions and Harris = emissions.

But I'd still use the registered agent, they should forward mail to you as well if I recall correctly.

What did you have to do for emissions in Harris County?? To my knowledge no county tests diesels for emissions, at least not yet, in Texas. It is a safety inspection only (head lights, brake lights, blinkers, horn, etc. for $14 or so)

..

Thanks for the offer. This is a possibility. I bought this truck in La Grange, so you are not that far out of the way. Let me see if I can find anything closer.

I think that you are right. My truck is regitered in Travis county and they only test for the safety stuff. My gasser which is also registered there has the complete emissions tests done.

How can you do that legally when the DMV expect you to notify them of address changes pronto?

A registered agent will work for me and forward mail, but there is a monthly charge. I hate to pay over $20 a month for two or three letters a year. In my case, for DMV purposes, an agent is really stretching things and I am attempting to do things as legally as possible considering my unusual circumstances.
