Gun Question

Hey guys, I am having problems finding a rifle I am interested in. The rifle in question is a REM 700 VSF .308.

It has a tan stock and fluted "bull" barrel. I have been on gunsource and a few other sites. I checked out impact guns as they are right down the road from me. EVERYONE is on backorder?

Anyone know anything baout these rifle's? I have been comparing them to a REM 700 PSS in .308 and am almost set on the VSF. Anyone have any info?

Thanks, ZACK

Almost identical except for the stock on the PSS being a little wider/thicker.
I have about 400 rounds through my new issued PSS now. We changed over from AR15's about 4 years ago and this is my second PSS now.

Most of us can't tell the difference with either one so you really just have to choose which one catches your eye more.

SY9159/60 PSS model
SY9207 VSF model
Get you a Harris Bi-pod, make a ghillie and drag bag for it!!!!!!

Thats kinda the idea I was gettin. I can get a PSS "accurized" right now for 1100 - without scope or bipod. The tan VSF is around 830 but OUT of stock. I am going for desert cam theme. so I will have the barrel and action redone at a local gunsmiths......If it was your money paying for one Which would you purchase?

If it was my money, I would get the one that suits my fancy. It sounds as if the PSS does not fit the bill. Dime at a grand huh?? Sounds mighty impressive, a heck of a lot better than I can do.

I am still working on loads and don't have a 1000 yard range to fiddle with, but 1.5" at 500 with a Springfield. Second shot is much quicker.

I have a 700VS in 308 that I have put a 700PSS stock on as well dropped a jewel trigger in. It shoots very well for a factory rifle, the next step for it is a match barrel and action work. The VSF is going to be hit or miss on accuracy, some will shoot great some will shoot so so and the factory tube is a bear to clean. Depending on your budget, I will assume $1100 since you mentioned it, I would opt for a used short action 700. Say an ADL, it will set you back $350-400 (and thats high), take it to your gunsmith and have him true up the action, square the lugs and install a match tube, anywhere from $300-$500. Take the high numbers and you are $900 in and a used stock can be had very cheap, my PSS stock (never used) cost me $125. With this you have pretty much a custom gun that will out shoot most shooters.

Tom

As for a VSF in 308, the local shop here had one a month or so ago, actually they had two, one used and one new. If you want I can call them tomorrow and see if they still have one and ask if they will do transfers. Let me know

For a factory rifle, you might check out a Weatherby Accumark. I've got one in 7mmSTW and I love it, I'm starting to get the itch for either a .30-.378 or a .338-.378, you can get both calibers in a factory rifle.

I have the 7mag myself and love it. Do you prefer the 7.62(308) ballistics over the 7 or even the 7.62x54? I have an 03 C&R ffl I,ll look at ky. imports,NAC,Midway and a couple of other places for you and see what I can come up with.

I have a M-4 (bushmaster) and I carry a M-16 everyday. I am military so i probably dont find the satisfaction in going Full Auto as you do. My new m-16 only has 3 round burst. I was one of the last in my unit to get a new one.

I am SET on 308 Guys. The PSS i can get is 11oo and has benn trued and all that gunsmith work done to it (accurized). I was trying to figure out the difference between the PSS and The VSF and have basically figured out that they have different stocks. 1stRamDiesel, that woul be great if you could check that shop. I found one in stock after 3 hours of searching last night BUT it was LH model and i am right handed....SO another no go. I will be home from Iraq around the 10th of may and htats when I will start buying / building. I have a local store that the weapon can be transfered to. Thanks guys keep the hits coming
