Good Free Computer Firewalls?

Zonealarm (free version) is junk & AVG no longer offers free firewall software.

Any suggestions?

Microsoft Defender (if you can stand Microsoft and don't use Mozilla).

I had Comodo on some of my office computers and its OK for Freeware. Pretty stout program. Not really hot on their AV software, but the FW is pretty good. Not the memory HOG of Norton (what I have on my primary machine...Don't ask)...

Linksys 4 port router for about $50.

hardware firewall wont crash on you.
Properly setup it will provide all the protection of a software firewall.

With perhaps the exception of outbound mess.

What a decided onb was AOL's MacAfee's security system. Free, and it works. The others mentioned here, Zone Alarm, Comando, AVG, are all junk IMHO. I tried them all and they would block my network.

I have Norton and Web Root installed on all my computers and have had good luck with them.
The thing I like about Norton compared to McAffee, is that Norton automatically updates itself.

Very interesting. You would think that they could be configured to allow exceptions.I have used zonealarm for years without any problems.I no longer use it because the hardware firewall provided by my router is doing the job and the free windows firewall is backing it up but I only use that on my desktop. My laptops etc still depend on the hardware firewall only.
Those firewalls need to be configured properly to work,I cannot imagine any of them being marketed successfully if they would not work on a network.Ron G
