Going Skiing in Durango CO

Ok guys, were going to Durango for a guys only ski trip Feb 5-12. We will be skiing for 3 days at Purgatory.

What are some of the cant miss attracations there? I know there is the Silverton Express(steam locomotive) but what else is there?

Also what are some of the essentials I need to bring? Im going to add some additive to the windshield washer fluid, full pm before leaving and have a spare fuel filter and some white bottle diesel power. I inquired about the roads and everyone seems to think that chains wont be needed. It would be nice if i could score a full size spare before I leave or a set of take offs but hopefully I can run what I have.

As far as skiiing, Its been 7+ years and dont remember what all to bring, so far this is what im thinking:

Camera
Bibs
Coat
Long Johns
Beanie
Googles
Gloves
Snow Boots
Sunscreen
Chapstick
Extra socks...

what are some of the things I am forgetting and will have to pay an arm and a leg for at the mountain

Thanks

Brett

I can't help you with your packing list etc but Durango has received over 40" of new snow in the last week so the powder should be good. It looks like you'll have a great trip snow wise.

Cool should be a good time. My local hill has a base of over 160 inches mid mountain right now. It's usually the deepest base in north america, but I saw today they are claiming the most in the world! Can't wait to get home.

Just returned from CRESTED BUTTE CO. If your driving, a 4wd if no 4wd then some tire better than the factory michillen poop. you will be better off walking.
We saw more snow than needed to ski and too much to snowmobile.
Have a great trip.

If chain laws are in effect, they usually start just north of the ski area, so you should be ok unless a trip to Silverton is planned. The train only goes half way in the winter, but with the recent snow, you could get some fantastic pictures. Maybe a guided snowmobile or snowshoeing tour. The weather is usually nicer in the mountains than in town. There's always a colorful nightlife in town also!!

Have you checked to make sure the train is running that time of the year ?? I think they shut down for a while each year ... not sure when though.

Head out to the Bar D ranch for a good meal and entertainment. Purgatory is some good skiing. Almost as good as Telluride.

Wish I was going with ya ... that used to be some of my old stompin grounds.

Look into the natural hot springs there-located just right outside of town on the way to Purgatory, might feel good after a day of falling on the slopes and for a good dinner go to the Steamworks Brewery on 801 East Second Avenue and get the Cajun Boil and some of their excellent microbrews. You can thank me later!

im pretty sure i wont have any problems picking some up for a night or two of fun! besides id rather take my chances of not meeting anyone up there instead of dealing with a gf on the trip...this is supposed to be fun, not a headache

i think ive already got the girl at the hotel coming to hang out with us. i wish i knew what she looked like but she sounded hot

The Bar D Chuckwagon is only open in the summertime, so that is out, but the hot springs are open year round for a nice soak. They are six miles north of town on the left. Dining wise, there are like 80 different places to eat. Sweeneys, Randy's, and the Red Snapper are personal favorites. Feel free to ask for more info as I live about 10 miles east of Durango.
