GM 4L60E tranny problem

Hey guys, a friend of mine has a 1997 chevrolet 4x4 with a 4L60E trans in it. The problem that it is having is that it will not lock the torque converter up when it shifts into OD. It is not receiving the signal for whatever the reason.. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

Jason

Are you sure its going into od? Assuming this is while not towing anything. I know the 97 4l60E had a problem with a internal part breaking in the trans that prevents it from going into od. Having someone run a scan tool on it would help.

It does shift 3 times, but then the TQ converter will not lock.. It does not get a signal according to the volt meter to lock up.

The 4l80e had a reputation of eating the solonoid that controls the lockup. not too hard to change, just inside the pan.

If it doesn't receive the signal to lock the converter, then he could have new solonoids , and still no go.

Not sure about the 4L60 but I had the same problem with a 700R4 and it was just the brakelight switch.
