people need to realize that their opinion is just an opinion. Just because you don't agree with something someone posted don't start a politcal war. If everbody agreed life would be boring. I think the general forum is fine to use for political discussion. Not "flame wars." And why in the world would anyone in their right mind post anything other than a joke or a comment saying how funny a joke was in the More Humor thread? If a joke offends you talk to a mod and get it removed. We like reading jokes and using our sense of humor. Just because you (anybody) don't have one there is no need to start a fight in a humor thread. I'm a Bush supporter, I posted jokes making fun of bush, you know why? Because it's funny and I DON'T CARE IF IT ISN'T MY STANCE. Take a joke for what it is. A JOKE.

I personally have no desire to discuss my political leanings on a forum so I wouldn't visit it anyway. Having said that, The main reason this is my "home" website is the focus on the topics at hand. I do visit the other forum here to see if I can add anything to a discussion as I don't have the experience with my truck to contribute on that topic.

Want to resolve it, take a poll. Vote to keep or boot political topics, or vote to establish a political forum or not, or whatever.

Once the results are in, lay down the ground rules then enforce them.

Regardless, the majority has spoken and the playfield is established. If folks can't live with that then guide them elsewhere.

I think Jack took that poll for us, and the answer was NO!

It's going to come up from time to time anyway, like someone said, fuel prices are political in nature.........

Having it contained to a serperate area doesn't mean it is going to be any more productive for the forum. There is no reasoning with some of us (BOTH sides, left and wrong, uh, I mean right)!

I think it's a good idea, shut down as they pop up. If people feel the need to continue to start obvious political thread, freeze their userames..........

I think that banning anything is counterperductive , like gun control , it more offen than not creates more of what you do not want ,
When some one gets what some may call out of hand , theres a couple of things that occure me its a reflection of whats going at that time [ helps to recalibrate reality ] and like poking that cat , do not give any response to what you think is out of hand , becouse if it is , then that is what its looking for , no response and it usally just goes away - if you ingauge someone onthe street who's having an argument with themselfs than you'll probubly get into a fight.
It seems the bleedover into other than other is just a reflection of fustration in the world today .
Just my 3 cents worth.

It probably wouldn't be so easy to want to shut it down if those involved would follow the guidelines instead of acting like this is "THEIR" site and wanting the rules molded to suit them. START YOUR OWN DIESEL / POLITICAL SITE !!!

True ... we talk about a great number of things here, and I agree that discussing politics in itself is not harmful. It simply turns into sounding like a bunch of little old bitties ragging on each other and not getting anywhere. And it is spilling into every nook and cranny of this site. There is such a thing as PM's that many people use to talk to each other about things that might cross the line of the site rules. GO THERE !!!

Good Lord ... I work around this kind of crap all day long, day in and day out ... can a guy go into the Humor posts to wind down with a smile without someone shoving more of it down his gullet ??

Bottom line is, Jack spoke .... deal with it or move on.

its getting out of hand.
Keep the politics in the the politicaly oreinted threads, and I dont think too many would have a problem with it, tho I personaly think those are getting childish and petty.
When things are degenerating to the point that folks are argueing about Reagan( how long ago was that for petes sake!) its getting silly.
Current events affect us all, and I agree there are political overtones to too many aspects of our lives to ban all political discussion, but the name calling, finger pointing childish bickering has got to stop.
The attempts to point fingers and lay blame for every turn of events is not productive, leads to a poor tone on this board and is un-needed in discussion of whats happening in the world.
We are all grown-ups, we all have our own veiws, and I certainly think we SHOULD all be mature enough to discuss things without acting like 5th graders on a playground.
If anyone realy thinks they are changing someone elses opinions by belittling them, they are mistaken. If you think that your few posts here will make someone change their base beliefs and values, then I think your ego is a little out of touch with reality.

SOOOOOOOO,
lets get this back to the FRIENDLY "agree to disagree" atmosphere that was prevalent on this board when I joined and is the reason this IS one of the best sites on the web......

Thank you for listening...................CD

Well said....

Interesting that Jack has singled out two members in particular.
Yes, I know that I sometimes post things that can be contraversial, but do so mainly so that folks can have a bit of fun with it. It has never been my intention to start fights or to get folks upset with one another. You know, if you don't like a thread, then DON'T READ IT!!!!!!! (is there a DAH! smilie?)
On many of my "political" posts I do so to keep you informed of things that may not be in the mainstream media. Again, some of them could lead to intensive discussions, but that is what makes it interesting. Take a look at how many members are reading the so-called bad political posts. There were 3,121 readers before the lock was put on the last political thread. Does this not tell you that many DTR members are interested in that subject?
Agreed that name calling and taking things personally is a no-no. Open, honest discussion with different viewpoints is stimulating - even with non-truck subjects. Isn't that why we have an "other" forum? I don't expect you (all readers) to agree with me and I do not expect to always agree with you, but will that put my nose out of joint? Not a chance. Heck, you may even teach me something and that I like. Is my viewpoint the only and right one? Wish it was, but the reality is that I am sometimes (often?) wrong. If I am wrong, then prove it to me and I will thank you for it.
So I say, let the political, religious and other possible contentious posts continue, but let it be known loud and clear that any deviation from the original subject and particularly getting personal will NOT be tolerated. Jack?

I don't mind when threads sometimes go into politics. It's normal like you guys said for threads such as fuel price threads and the like to go there. However, I do not like when people post "manifesto" type material. That is what starts the wars and frankly, it's getting old. So with that, we'll see how it goes. There is a change in the rules coming very soon. I don't know exactly how I'm going to change it yet, but it will be coming. Thanks for the input.

I gotta agree w/ PistolWhipt. Diesel engines and Dodge trucks have nothing to do w/ politics. I know where I stand on politics, and nothing I read on an internet forum is going to change my views, nor do I expect to change yours. JMO.

as far as a poll goes, Jack owns this site, and doesnt charge a dime for it, what he wants to do w/ it is for him to decide.

Nor do they have anything to do with guns, dogs, kids, our wifes, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and religion. But we all seem to discuss them with a little common sense. For the most part i do not read them because that is my right, on the other hand when mexstan posts i do read it because i enjoy what he writes about. I would hate to see anything in general be locked out because a few got out of hand. lets all use a little common sense and keep the topics going.
