Getting them to look at your resume?

I was laid off in Aug. of this year from a manufacturing job and started a new job in the metal recycling field in Sept. I took a $20k a year cut in pay but need the job Now my hours have been cut to 32 per week max. (another 20% cut ) I started looking for another job but really want something that "Should" be more stable but my resume is all manufacturing for the last 12 years ending with a production control manager position (not counting current job)

I have lots of knowledge and skills in many different areas but it does not show on the resume. These are the types of jobs I am trying for now but I am afraid people are looking at it and thinking I am over qualified or not even close to being qualified. How do I get people to pay closer attention to the resume without making it look full of useless info??? ( I have seen LOTS of those)

Any help is greatly appreciated because I really need a new job!!

Try applying at smaller companys where you are more likely to get a call back.

State right in your cover letter what you just said then add the information to the resume, cut out some of the stuff that dosent apply as much to the job you are trying to get.

Dont over use big words, but use enough to show you have a command of the english language. Word has a tool that checks the grade level equivilent of what you have written.

Good luck

EDIT: Make sure you have at least 2 other people proofread your resume, preferably who have experiance hiring

I found it, but I do not know how it works I think I ran the check but have no idea what the results are or where they will be

EDIT: I figured it out. It shows a grade level of 11.7. Does that sound OK? Should I make it sound better? Dumb it down? Or just leave it alone?

I think they only grade up to 12 I might be wrong, mine usually come in around 9 or 10 mostly because I find myself writing useless info to fill space. If I'm right about 12 being the highest then it sounds like you are good. Does it not show anywhere what the highest level is?

Looks like I will be finding out soon turns out got to start on another 10 page term paper now in a few days. Sometimes I think finishing up on college is way to time consuming while running a business, but might as well finish the last 15 hours

Red face

always worth it, don't quit now! atta boy for you!

state if you have supervisory or technical experience, can't be overqualified if you state you want job stability. stick with what you have if you get a positive feeling about what you write. usually edit it about three times.

lot of help here on this site- good luck!

here is some courage and support, .....oh, and cookies

I will make a few minor changes but I do feel comfortable with what I have. I just need to re-word a few things to help get the point across better.
Thanks for the help. Any other suggestions are always welcome

Go to a local college and get a career conselor to take a look at your resume and how to improve it.

Many times, especially since the job market is so flooded, they are sorting through stacks of resumes who all are qualified.

Remember to tell them why they need to call you instead of the next paper in line who probably has the same skills they require.
