Getting ready to get out of the navy!!

Well, it's finally that time. Just figured I would post on here to see if there are any Aircraft Mechanics that know of a contractor/company hiring? I have worked on helicopters for 5 years. Anything from metal fab, composites, hydraulics, flight controls. Pretty much anything to do with an aircraft. Just figured I would try some networking on here. Thanks, Derek

There's work for A&P mechanics. Do you have an airframe and/or powerplant cert. from the F.A.A.?

Check out the big job boards like ClearanceJobs.com, Monster, etc.

Also Google "Top 50 Defense Contractors" .... tons of money overseas right now.

I'm leaving out of San Diego. I can't wait to get back to the Midwest!! I don't have my A&P yet, but I do have 5 1/2 yrs experience. It should only take 9 months for me to finish my A&P license with the time I have through the Navy. Then I have to finish my bachelor's degree. So, I would like to find something close to some schools. I'm really contemplating Tulsa, OK. They have Spartan University, and I will only be 4 hours away from home in MO. It should all work out. I've been looking into the govt jobs also. My goal is to become a safety inspector for the FAA. Thanks

Were you at 32nd St.? Back in 78 to 80 I was stationed at Point Loma on a floating drydock for the subs. One of 2 Seabees on that Haze Gray just to operate the cranes.

Good luck brother! I got out of the Corps back in Nov. I did 8 years. Have a bachelors degree and it took me right at 6 months to land a job! It is a tough time to find work!

sounds like you should extend for a year!

theres NO ONE out here waiting for you.

i bought into that bag of lies when i got out, "oh, we all WANT you and will PAY you anything, come on big boy!"

yeah. took me about 3 months to find the only decent job i got offered.

go spend a day at the Unemployment Office, i had to last week for a hearing, it's UNBEARABLE. just like the DMV in the movie BEETLEJUICE.

i would start a post "retired military, would you do it again?"

and see what kind of response you get.

you just can't beat mail box money

Took me two months to find a job to make-do until the right one came along.

I agree whole heartedly with 04CTD about extending ... or re-upping if you can. The middle of a recession is NOT the ideal time to cut ties to a guaranteed paycheck. If yu were retiring, that would be one thing ... a little different if you aren't getting a check to help carry you thru.

Cheers,
PISTOL

Glad to hear that you know what you want. yet, see above. Now is not the time to even consider you getting what you want, where you want it. nuff said you already have parents, hehehehe

ok, so doing what you do (got to have the license though) Location South of Washington DC- defense contractor general dynamics has a rotating list. paper qualifications get you an interview, the rest is up to you. so make sure a career counselor can look at your resume first. they are the ones who know what the market needs...

and by all means- good luck and good thinking.
