getting out of california and into montana?

so i cant take anymore of california!!! my whole life all i wanted to do is work hard, hunt, fish, play guitar and work on my truck. an now i cant do any of those things. i have no place to go and catch some good fish with out 20 poeple acting like fools right next to me. i cant play guitar because i live in a apartment due to housing being over priced. my plan is to move to montana! growing up my mother always told me stories of my great aunts and uncles owning a winery named wente brothers winery in montana. my whole family tells me i have the wente blood in me and i dont belong in the city. so my question is, i need to convince my girlfriend that it is a great place to raise a family, i am planning a trip up there for next summer and dont know where to start. thats when you guys come in. were do i go and what should i do? what places should i visit and what towns are the best. thanks!

My brother lives in Absarokee Montana and loves it. But as a Montana native, he is also one of many who are irritated at how many Californians are bailing out of there and into the peace and quiet... raising the property taxes and bringing that california state of mind with them.

Not saying that this is you or that this is your intention ( I lived in California too at a few times in my life ... I know what you're up against and I don't blame you in the least !! ) ... but this may be some of the mentality that you face.

Sure is beautiful up there ... Alaska is also a good place to do the things that you mentioned !! I'd love to move there one day (probably move back after one winter though).

Good luck to ya !!

Cheers,
PISTOL

I just left the great peoples state to move to fairbanks. best thing Ive ever done. Montana is great, just not a lot of jobs. Still a good bit of work up here. My girlfriend, well she has been getting bored, but she got a job she can use her degree in, full time work so its hard to get bored. Also we are financing a sled when the snow flies. If your lady likes the outdoors, she'll love it up here. IF she hates winter your in trouble.

I left Komyfornia in the early 80s to get away from the Komyfornians. I had to leave Montana in the mid 90s because Komyfornians started pouring in there and turned it into Komyfornia North. They are doing the same thing in Alaska now.

As long as you don't drive a Subaru and tell me what I can or can't do then you're welcome to come here. Not a lot of jobs around here like previous posts but still lots of open ground and some very remote places left for sure. Depends on what you/she do/does for work. If you are a ranchhand then there's plenty here for you to do. Montana is funny in that there are a couple of towns that have high prices on housing but just 10 miles either driection you can find a small community where the prices are cut in half. If you plan on being a hand then I would check out the Sheridan/Silver Star (Sheridan MT) in the Ruby Valley area. Lots of hunting and fishing there with large ranches needing help as well as dude ranches and the housing is usually included or at least very cheap. Not much for a city girl to do though especially in the Winter. You ever pull calves in -35 F before? You can hay in 100 F in August and pull calves in -35 F in Feb-March here but once you're here you won't want to leave.

ive never been in -35 before. but ive gone swimming in lake tahoe in january. but i will say this much, ive done a lot of physical labor. i used to load trailers at ups in 130 degree trailers. in 4 hours i loaded 123,000lbs of boxes in three 42 foot trailers. this was 5 days a week. oh and i painted in oakland for 8+ hours a day 5 days a week as well and went to college 6 hours a day till i dropped out my second semester. for about 2 years i only slept about 2 hours a day if not every other day. so im not worried about having to work cattle in the cold. as long as i get to be in montana i will be happy doing what ever i do!!! my girlfriend loves the outdoors! her family owns a 5 acre cabin in yosemite and we go hiking and atv riding all the time. she is in college right now and she is in the top classes and the top 5 gpa(i barely graduated high school) she is getting a bunch of degrees and works for a great company. so she will do fine up there for work. ive been looking on craigslist at jobs and theres a lot of jobs in her field and a lot of ranch hand jobs. right now i work nights for the home depot, driving a fork lift for the lumber and building materials department and restocking all the little odds and ends. i also paint still but its only part time. i have a plan of starting my own fencing and trenching company. my buddy is a works for a servaying company so he will do the technical stuff and i will do the labor. how the polsen area?

I love this country I just cant stand whats happening to it anymore. as the deviate mayor of San Fran. said "as California gos so gos the rest of the country" And BAMA is doing that and more. I wish I knew now to turn things around!

ok, first she's a girlfriend.
second, working in 130* weather is easier than 7000 ft elevation.
third, Boseman has a college and may have some jobs available, outside of that, I really dont know whats in Montana. Wyoming has some drilling and mining.

Cut and run while you can. you may have to work at a stop and rob, but its a start.

Like posted before, there are very limited jobs in Montana. Lots and lots of country and there are always ranch jobs. Because of the Californian's, the Western part of the state is getting real bad. Bozeman, Whitefish, Kalispell, Missoula, etc.... the Cali's moved in. Them *****&*#R(**%&*&*&%^%&^*&&#^*^*# like to buy up all our beautiful country and CLOSE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The land we grew up on, and enjoyed for years. The central and eastern part of the state is where a lot of natives still live. Great people. Plus, you could afford to live there. Not so easy in the Western part. Pretty bad when a 10 acre plot in parts of the Western side cost $5,000,000.00 Thank you California. Anyway, thats a bad bad subject around here, but if you are like you say... work hard, not a POS human being, and love to hunt and fish, you would do just fine here. Just try and blend in. Oh, and this is very important... DON'T BRING YOUR FRIENDS.

shes been my girlfriend since i was 14, i am 23 now and have not had a single problem ever! we see eye to eye on everything. onece she finishes school i will ask her to be my wife. the only friend that plans on moving up there with me actually grew up there as a kid and his whole family lives there. i am montana at heart and share nothing in common with the people in california. you guys have to see it from my pov as well. im a minority were i live. when i was growing up it was nothing but ranchers and trailer parks and sub divisions. now its thugs punks and meth heads everywhere. im not racist but i cant stand the people in the area. everyone says just move out of the bay area but it wont make a difference. i live in a tourist capital so i know were your coming from on foreign people coming around. im planning on visiting montana and i hope i can meet some of you guys and be shown some montana hospitality.

i'm in the process of exploring my options. i'm living in az this summer, and texas next summer. i'm tired of the californicated oregon towns and cities. plus 9 months of rain is just to much.
i grew up in oregon and it will always be my first home. but it's changing way to fast into a socialist state.
which climate suits me the best and the cost of living, compared to my fixed income. i'll end up.
