I have never wanted a bike until now. Diesel here is only $2.35 but i know it is going to go up. I still think of how much fuel I could buy for $20,000 (firefighter edition harley) though.

Geezer-Glide getting a real workout this year with the current fuel prices.

Still, 5 gallons of High-Test Gas will get me to and from work for a week.
VS
20 gallons of Diesel Fuel

You gotta feel sorry for the poor and on a fixed income. Whether they heat with fuel oil, LP, or natural, come December they're gonna be bankrupt.

Thank god I got a tri axel load of logs sitting in my front yard. I've got my self a 20 year old super split wood spliter, and we go to work! takes about a month to cut and split the whole load. I dont mind it and it heats the house for 2 years. Any one ever thought about running WVO in their heater?

You expressed MY feelings exactly!

We can gripe about the price of fuel for our trucks, (and rightfully so), but the older people that have worked their butts off all their life are now using every penny they have to keep their houses warm in the winter. Not to mention the ones that just plain don't have it to spend. Last winter was bad enough, and I saw several elderly couples having to choose between warmth, food or medication.

Additionally, in my home town back in New England, there are several older people I talked to that are now paying more per year in property taxes than they ever did per year in mortgage payments. That's sad. Is this what we have to look forward to in our retirement? Or can we just forget about retirement altogether?

Ok, I'm done.

Blue one looks like a '79 FLH I had back then. I have to use my truck for work as I carry tools and parts along with a bunch of literature and safety stuff. But the company pays me 40.5 cents a mile. They're getting a bargain and I prefer to not drive a stripped down Ranger with plastic seats. I used to ride my Harley when I was a helper and didn't have to carry so much.
Diesel is between 89 and 93 around here now. 89 is around $2.50 a gallon and diesel is around $2.60. It's cheaper at the oily puddle stations but I'll decline. When it reaches $3.12 a gallon, I'll be paying equivelant to what I paid in '80. But I'm making four times as much. Not rich but not hurting either.

I agree about the fuel prices for the poor.

Most poor families with a car cannot afford a car that gets good mileage so they drive lead-sleds that guzzle. And they rent homes with landlords who won't spring for a good natural gas heater.

Just noticed today that regular unleaded is about $.10 more than diesel in my area.
