A friend of mine has a GPSMap 376c with the XM Satellite weather. It works very well and the updates are somewhat timley, they are not realtime . We were in a situation last spring with a tornado heading towards our campground and we relied on the GPS and it worked out well. The monthly price on that service is somewhat deceiving from their website. Good thing is you can suspend it 1 time a year.

If I did not already have a GPSMap 276c I would buy the 376c.

I have been looking at the street pilot 7200 or 7500...but in a few months when the price drops

I want the ability to check real time weather while I am driving, cause usually when I am driving somewhere that requires me to think "man it would be nice to know what the weather is doing" than chances are I am driving in a nasty storm and under a deadline. i know a few weeks ago I was heading out to the boyscout camp that got hit by a tornado, and on the way there were tornados touching down close to the freeway I guess. I tucked in behind a semi and called over to him on the CB and he kept me pretty up to date. gotta love truckers! I guess he had a GPS setup that was realtime.

Most factory radios in big trucks have a 6 channel weather band in them, so that could have been how they knew as well. Not sure if Qualcomm is setup to utilize the weather service or not.

I have the wx channels as well, but this guy knew where the storm was gonna pass, how strong it was, and all the other stuff the cb's dont tell us. and he wasnt getting all the info from passing truckers in the opposite lanes, he was updating me like every 10 minutes (it was a big storm).

maybe its just the way its worded in the write up. or maybe i just assumed that weather off of XM sattelite would be real time.

Not sure if it is realtime, but Bushnell Onix 4000 has the ability to get XM weather. It is a handheld. That being said, I have 4 Garmin units, Bushnell doesn't come to mind when I think electronics.

No, weather off of XM is not realtime, but it is close. Some units, IIRC, are delayed with dopler radar feeds by 5 - 12 minutes.

That is correct. NEXRAD is 5 minutes and everything else is 12 minutes. But I believe there's a severe storm tracker that's updated every 1.5 minutes or so.
