??? Furnace ???
Well since some of you have already experianced the cold, well we got it when I was in sunny Southern California last weekend. Got home last night to a cold house and turned up the termostate and nothing. First thing I think is that the pilot light was out, gas, so I told myself I can get through the night no problem. Well day two, pilot light is lite but no blower. I'm stumped on this one. I can do another night but not the whole winter.
Do you guys have any ideas? maybe I'm missing something? How much can I expect to pay for a new furnace if it is worst case?
Thanks

Yes, if not you may be into a thermocouple. If it is shot it won't allow the burner to come on (thinks yo don't have a pilot lit and doesn't want to spew gas).
They DO go bad and are usually very easy to purchase and replace.

Had this happen with my furnace last Nov (and it was -30 at the time!)
Mine would short cycle, burner would come on, fan would never start and then burner would go out after a while.
(Thermo couple says it's getting too hot, stop)
After taking the panel off the furnace I gave the fan motor a shake and got sparks from the wiring!
Found the wiring was bad to the fan motor, removed fan motor, ran and tested it and then rewired and replaced fan motor.
Been fine ever since.

If the burner is coming on and then cycling back off without the fan coming on, the problem could be in the temperature sensor that triggers the fan relay.
If the burner is not coming on at all, the problem may be be the thermocouple as P.J. mentioned or it could be in the thermostat not triggering the furnace.
