When prices of fuel were climbing quickly, LOTS of companies started adding the fuel surcharge to help cover the increased costs. I was upset but I see their point and agreed to it. They still need to make money.

I have noticed that all the shipping companies (for example) are still adding the fuel surcharge. I had to ship a package FedEx that was 5 lbs and there was a $4.xx surcharge to the total price still I wonder if this is a charge that will ever go away if the fuel prices stayed low? I doubt it!!

 

Nope. They got you used to it and will bank the surcharge as profits. They will use some excuse like "We are saving it to help keep costs low when fuel rises again"

 

Here's the formula used.http://www.fwccinc.com/surcharge.html . There will be a surcharge unless fuel goes below $1.15 a gallon . Most carriers adjust the FSC weekly . With fuel dropping as it has lately anybody not dropping the charge will lose customers . The FSC is an advantage for hotshotters . They can show shippers that they only use half as much fuel as a Class 8 semi so the FSC is only half as much .
Some businesses figure the FSC a different way and may not adjust it . Schwann's food service charges $1 an order but will waive it if it may cost them a customer . Airlines are not reducing the FSC on tickets as they should be .
