Fort Collins, CO
Better watch out, they are trying to ban Christmas around those parts from what I hear!
That is, if its important to you.

I was born and raised there, actually a little north of Fort Collins in Wellington, graduated from High School at Poudre High in Fort Colliins. I would move back there in a second. The city of Fort Collins is pretty expensive you might want to look at areas like Wellington, Ault, Eaton and Windsor. They are all a short drive from Fort Collins but a little cheaper to live in. Most of the construction in the area is going to be in these outlying towns.
Compared to areas closer to Denver Ft Collins is ridiculously cheap. Yes, Wellington and Laporte are cheaper but you also have to sacrifice living much further away from anything. Since the housing market in Colorado is in the hole right now you can get some very good prices on houses whether your buying or renting, I have lived in the same house since my sophomore year of college and its a 2250 sq/ft house, 4 levels, 2 car garage, 5 bed-4 bath and I have 3 other roommates and we each pay 350+utils, so 450 at absolute most to me. Thats pretty cheap
Id love to move to Ft. Collins...when I was going to school in Laramie my roommates and I were down there every night, always found something to do...I really like it there; too bad Halliburton doesnt have a camp there, Id be there in a heartbeat.
anytime your gonna head down there hit me up, there is never a shortage of new people to meet in the Fort and the bars are top notch along with the women and the beer couldn't be any cheaper.
Good advice in posts #19 and #20.
Ft Collins is a great place to live, work, recreate, whatever. It's practically a bedroom community for Cheyenne
Seriously, though-- it's a great place. The weather is about perfect IMO. It's a beautiful place. It's still somewhat affordable in the right places. It had tons of places to eat and things for entertainment (it IS a college town, after all).
It also happens to have a good percentage of leftist kooks, but that's part of being a college town. It's not nearly as bad as Boulder (is anything but San Fran that bad?), but there are some there. You may get your truck keyed for not being "green" enough, but you're more likely to get a thumbs up from a fellow CTD owner.
Diesel is expensive there.
You're also close to LaserBob in Greeley, and ATS down in west Denver.
I'd have to give a slight nod to Colorado Springs over Ft Collins, but that's more due to the people there, not the city itself. Those two cities represent my two favorite places in the lower 48 to live. (I've been to 42 of 50 states).
My 3rd favorite place to live would be Rapid City SD.
I love the Rockies and the Great Plains. I grew up in ND, so the closer I stay to the middle of the US, the happier I'm likely to be.

If I had to choose between Boulder and Fort Collins, I would choose Fort Collins any day. However, I'm not a big fan of the area. I dated a girl who went to college there so I spent about 3 years in the area off and on. Wasn't my cup of tea.
I would take the mountains any day over those towns along I25. I guess I'm partial to the mountains though, being from Breckenridge. I just don't think there is anything that can compare to the mountains of Colorado.
Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction and places like Telluride are nice too. If you want snow, that's the place to be.
Aspen? Stay far far away. They're a bunch of freaks up there.

I have lived in Fort Collins for 32 years. Its a nice place, but getting a little too big for my taste! The construction and re-model business is a little slow right now. But if you are honest and do quality work for a reasionable price it should be okay!
Oh yeah, this is my first post...I have been a lurker on here for almost 2 years! I just figured this was a post that I knew something about!
