Evening

Made dinner tonight, had cornish hens and some potato pancakes. Wife worked late tonight and she's still recovering from a cold.

Work was good today, had a safety meeting this morning and then I exchanged some electric meters after the meeting. It was a nice easy monday.

How's everyone?

Dang it, buddy. They are pretty common for going out, mine did a couple of years ago. It's pretty easy, do you need the references?

Thanks, but I think I can make this one happen OK. It really doesn't look like there's much to get out of the way other than maybe the airbox.

Shorts, Tim, Scotty, sounds like it's time for a group session. I'll make it a foursome. SIL called just a little bit ago, stupid nephew took too many sleeping pills. She's trying to get him in the car and to the hospital. He's in for a fun morning. Next.......

Is this the same nephew we've heard about before, the one who wants his car fixed but doesn't like lifting a finger to help?

Morning all.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 31st:

1747 - The first clinic specializing in the treatment of venereal diseases was opened at London Dock Hospital.

1865 - In America, General Robert E. Lee was named general-in-chief of the Confederate armies.

1865 - The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. It was ratified by the necessary number of states on December 6, 1865. The amendment abolished slavery in the United States.

1876 - All Native American Indians were ordered to move into reservations.

1893 - The trademark "Coca-Cola" was first registered in the United States Patent Office.

1917 - Germany announced its policy of unrestricted submarine warfare.

1930 - U.S. Navy Lt. Ralph S. Barnaby became the first glider pilot to have his craft released from a dirigible, a large blimp, at Lakehurst, NJ.

1940 - The first Social Security check was issued by the U.S. Government.

1944 - During World War II, U.S. forces invaded Kwajalein Atoll and other areas of the Japanese-held Marshall Islands.

1945 - Private Eddie Slovik became the only U.S. soldier since the U.S. Civil War to be executed for desertion.

1950 - U.S. President Truman announced that he had ordered development of the hydrogen bomb.

1958 - Explorer I was put into orbit around the earth. It was the first U.S. earth satellite.

1971 - Astronauts Alan B. Shepard Jr., Edgar D. Mitchell and Stuart A. Roosa blasted off aboard Apollo 14 on a mission to the moon.

1985 - The final Jeep rolled off the assembly line at the AMC plant in Toledo, OH.

1995 - U.S. President Clinton invoked presidential emergency authority to provide a $20 billion loan to Mexico to stabilize its economy.

2000 - An Alaska Airlines jet crashed into the ocean off Southern California. All 88 people on board were killed.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Steadfastness is the indispensable quality of every man who one day does not wish to be obliged to say: “I have wasted my life".

Coffee's on.

I was back in Center Point Saturday, same street I worked on. I snapped a few more pics to share. This pretty much shows the difference between old school and new school. New school are for the most part coming apart in pieces, old school are knocked off the foundations first.

I've torn down old houses with storm closets in them. They're typically at least 3 layers of pine boards nailed to 2x4 studs. One layer is 90* to the studs, one layer is nailed to that at 45* to the studs and the third layer is nailed 45* to the studs but in the opposite direction to the previous layer, so it forms an X. They are tough to break up.

Scott, that's the stepson. I've got that one adjusted now as to the car repairs. If he isn't with me, it don't happen. It's amazing how much time he can find to help now. The nephew has "issues". He's bi-polar and has at least one other accompanying diagnosis that is being addressed. The biggest problem now is his continued abuse of non-prescribed drugs. He needs to be in an in-house treatment program but he's not willing to go yet. This may be the stray.........I hope. We had to sign commitment papers on my SS. My SIL will if she's smart this time.

Got to run, Doctor's appointment in a few.

Mornin.

Rick, hope your doc treats you well. Nothing like an angry proctologist...

I apologize for my off color statement last night... I didn't mean anything by it, other than work was being a PITA, it's hard to escape the stupid people.

I got 76 PM's of people asking me if I was ok, and if I wasn't, could they have my truck/kegerator/tools.

Funny, but not.

Coffee, work.
