The Forgotten Diner 1/29-2/4

I'll cranked the heater on and flip on the coffee pot. A few shrews scattered when the lights came on. The donuts are ok, just a few have teeth marks. Dragon went south for the winter so he won't be back until he doesn't have to use the bock heater anymore.

The janitor saw them mess of the last place and says "OHHHHHHH boy" Don't tear this place up too bad.

Yall be cool, just be cool.

Nice place! The last one that Hvytrkmech opened wasn't bad but didn't have the underwear fluttering around on the ceiling fan.
Getting excited, get to go down south real soon. Even though Seattle is raining, I dont care.
One of the things I like about my place is I can take a whiz outside without bugging anybody.
Currently its -27f and falling which means whizzing in the wind has its hazards.
Seattle has gotta be better than this.

In Seattle, when you wiz in the wind you'll probably have company whilst you're doing it! I can't think of one conceivable way that Seattle can be better than anywhere in Alaska. And yes, I include Little Diomede Island, Wainwright and Shemya in that statement!

Nice place ya got here Shorts...mebbe it's time to start serving coffee with a bit more "kick" to it...might liven up the old-timers crowd a bit

And on that note; the glass is empty, the fire low and it seems my bed is the place to go.

See me in the morning.

Well, we went from a cafe' to a diner. Add a drive-in and Guy Fieri might put this dive on the map.

Coffee and shrewnuts on the counter for the night shift. See ya in the daylight.

I can think of 100,000 places that would be better than anyplace in Alaska at THIS time of year.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 29th:

1820 - Britain's King George III died insane at Windsor Castle.

1850 - Henry Clay introduced in the Senate a compromise bill on slavery that included the admission of California into the Union as a free state.

1861 - In America, Kansas became the 34th state of the Union.

1886 - The first successful petrol-driven motorcar, built by Karl Benz, was patented.

1916 - In World War I, Paris was bombed by German zeppelins for the first time.

1949 - "The Newport News" was commissioned as the first air-conditioned naval ship in Virginia.

1985 - The Dow Jones industrial average peaked at 1,292.62.

1990 - Joseph Hazelwood, the former skipper of the Exxon Valdez, went on trial in Anchorage, AK, on charges that stemmed from America's worst oil spill. Hazelwood was later acquitted of all the major charges and was convicted of a misdemeanor.

1997 - America Online agreed to give refunds to frustrated customers under threat of lawsuits across the country. Customers were unable to log on after AOL offered a flat $19.95-a-month rate.

1998 - A bomb exploded at an abortion clinic in Birmingham, AL, killing an off-duty policeman and severely wounding a nurse. Eric Rudolph was charged with this bombing and three other attacks in Atlanta.

1999 - Paris prosecutors announced the end of the investigation into the accident that killed Britain's Princess Diana.

1999 - The U.S. Senate delivered subpoenas for Monica Lewinsky and two presidential advisers for private, videotaped testimony in the impeachment trial.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?

Woke up with a pain under my shoulder blade when I breath in. Need more coffee I guess.

Here's a little motivational poster to start off your new week;

Nice break room Shorts, thanks for firing it up. Bark no thongs on the ceiling fans, they were on the chandelier in the main dining room but the lights were kept off.

Had a great time with my bride downtown Friday night. Hooked up with a bunch of fire guys from Chelsea, Boston and surrounding citites for a retirement/thank you celebration. Had some absolutely hilarious speakers, thought I was at a comedy club for a while. Nice to see gaps being bridged and people coming together.

The kids, grand daughter and I took the Wife out to the local Polynesian restaurant for a nice dinner show for her 51st birthday. Had an awesome time.

Going to catch up on things around the house today, back on duty tomorrow.

Ya'll have a good week.

MMMmmmmmmm-mmmmm!

Cool weather, but but warm for these parts in January.
Forecasting temps to get near 70 by mid-week.

Hope ya'll have a safe and relaxing Sunday.

Bark - maybe you should come to Calgary instead of Seattle. I don't know what has happened this winter but we have had less than 3 or 4 inches of snow all winter. It is going to be 53F today and daytime temps aren't going to be below freezing all week. Lots of sun and big blue skies.

Madhat, I am sure I would love winters in Yuma but I think your summers would kill me. I have lived in this prairie climate for so long that once the daytime temp gets over about 85F, I have to go sit in a chair in the shade. That being said, I am still pretty good at -30F in the winter.

A balmy tropical -1° this morning. Warming up for the next storm.
The dragon bailed, what am I going to do with this block heater?
So those aren't sprinkles on the donuts then. I'll pass.

Mornin' all!

Guess the weather guessers were wrong when they said it was going to warm up to -25*..... Current forecast says a high of -42 and a low of -44 with a current temp of -48*.

Looks like a perfect day to replace the garage door opener!

Keep the lot warm!

Afternooner DTR. One of these days I'm gonna start a breakroom. You'd think after 7 years of being here I would've started one by now.
