Finally starting new job....

Well, after losing my job last winter and doing various temporary jobs to make a little money finally starting my new full time job Monday. Got all my Class A CDL with Hazmat done so I can go to work driving local. I get to start out with a 2007 Freightliner day cab with less then 20,000 miles on it! I have never driven a semi that new. Don't know how it will go but will be hauling grain, fertilier, sand, etc.. 10 hour days, 5 days a week, comp. time for over time. Has some benefits so it will at least allow me to be home every night with the family and will pay the bills until I finally settle into a permanet career that will let me use my education. Just had to share and hopefully I made the right choice for now.

Congratulations!

Be careful with 'comp time' I know some companies are very good about it, others are not. those companies that do not pay OT, are likely to be so cheap that they abuse the 'comp time' and run their people ragged. Time will tell with your company.

Just trying to warn you, so you can maximize your family time.

Tony

Thanks for the info TonyB, it is up to me keep track of my time and then turn it in weekly. It is a small outfit, 4 trucks and a very large farming operation which I also get to work on when needed. Thanks again for the info, several people have warned me to watch the comp time as well. I wasn't exactly thrilled to be on flat salary either but it will have to do since there is so few jobs that are not OTR locally.
