Over the years I have kept on adding electrical stuff with wires and in line fuses all over the place. Been getting increasingly nervous about a couple of the circuits that remained hot even with the ignition switch off. ie the seat warmers. So bought the Painless 7 circuit auxiliary fuse block from Genos and rewired everything. All the additional wiring is now off when the ignition switch is off, plus is neatly bundled. Gee, almost looks like a factory installation.
Recently I took the long drive to Laredo and left shortly before sunrise. Not long after leaving home the low fuel pressure light came on and the the fuel pressure gauge dropped to zero. Great! Just what I needed at the start of a long trip!!!!! Replaced the fuse, but less than a minute later it blew again. It took me 3 fuses to figure out the cause. I was starting to think that the fuel pump had packed it in when it dawned on me that I only lost fuel pressure after I switched on the driving lights I have installed in the bumper. So switched the lights off, installed a new fuse and voila, the pump worked just fine. It turned out that I had inadvertently connected the fuel pump and the driving lights to the same fuse.
As both draw high amps, the 10 amp fuse could not handle it. Now need to re-rearrange some wires. Not a big job, but that simple mistake nearly caused me to abandon my trip.
