You can get just as hurt on a harley. Its not the bikes falt, its the rider.

I didnt say it was the bikes falt. I was just thinking of fond memories. I had a mobile dismount last summer at 75mph. It wasnt the bikes fault at all but im convinced I came out unharmed because of the bike.

Whooops sorry about that. I get kind of defensive about that its a pain to try and convince people that not all rocket riders are jerk offs. Much like its typical for someone to thing cause someone rides a harley they go to the bar and get drunk and drive around causing problems.

Sorry to hear about your get off. Mine was at 45mph because of no falt of my own. Broken collar bone, cracked ribs, deeply brused back. Not fun. I dont even wanna think about 30mph more tacked on to that.

I was lucky. It had rained earlyer in teh week so the median was mostly mud. It was like a big slip and slide. But I will say the BMW with the cyclinders sticking out the sides and the hard saddlebags have to be the best leg savers ever. Kept me unharmed untill we went our seperate paths. See now I dont think harly riders are bar going drunkin fighters.. I think there all yuppies with trailers who never actually ride more then 5miles from home At least thats just the ones I know.

Yeah those BMWs are goofy looking but i guess they can be some good

I high sided in a corner due to a "tar snake" and ended up sliding (full leathers) on my right side for about 10' on the pavement and I hit a 8" tall cement curb with my right sholder/back and was flipped up on to the grass. Ouch alot.

Dad and I on the road from Virginia to Milwaukee WI in 1993. The brown bike I'm riding is a 77 and Dad is on his 88 (? I think) with no problems there and back. He turned 65 that trip and he's been riding since he was 15. We both still have these bikes and a few others. He is still riding and I hope to be still riding my Harleys when I get to his age. My "go fast" days are just about over with when it comes to two wheels. My 77 XLCR and 79 XLS were fast enough for me. I would prabably be "Gone-Away-From-Here" if I would have owned one of them sportbikes back then.

Cruisingram, Most of that is true but your bike won't ride as good as a HD Electra Glide. I've rode 3 straight 750 mile days with my wife behind me and it wasn't that bad I wouldn't want to try that on yours.

I guess my point is- to me, harleys are wastes of metal mostly made for boutique urban bikers that want to feel tough after a hard week of accounting LOL

Incredibly over priced, incredibly slow, incredibly bad handling, incredibly unreliable.

I am pretty sure my daughters battery operated toy yard jeep could pretty much kick thier collective *edit LOL

You can tell people that don't own a Harley!!!!!

I wouldnt ride long distance on anything but a bmw. 12 gallons of fuel, plenty of storage. Seat customized to your butt. (thats a fun process lots of mesurements and pictures) No wind. heated grips heated suits heated socks cd players gps cb I love it. Though alot of wasted money on most of that. I dont have the sound stuff and only a heated vest.

Wow; CruisingRam is in the Guinness book of world records. What closed course did you ride your bike on for the record? Was your closed course in Alaska too? I don't have a copy from 1985, are you listed by name? Or are you merely happy with taking credit for it?

Hmmm, "Design Speed" for a V65 Magna. What the heck is design speed? I call that "bar speed". A Magna on a Closed Course - I bet thats what Honda had in mind for that puppy.

Since you posted that you collect those Books, maybe you could post a pic of that page with you and your bike on it for us all to see.

CR, lastly, your pic isn't a V65 Magna either. hehehehe I wonder if you even own a bike; it sounds like you're a disgruntled wannabee.

You should ride a tc88 - not bad ......

Ride Safe.
I was not saying MY bike made the guiness- just posting the world recored FOR the bike- I think I was pretty clear mine was a Sabre- and any stock V-rod, any day, any time- my V65 will smoke it in every category except resale, top speed, 1/4 mile, from a roll, mileage and even comfort.

The only rude riders I have ever encountered on the hiway have been harley guys- though about half of them give the "bike wave" to us as well- and they even give other bike riders crap on charity runs- there were constant comments at the last "christmas in July" ride for MD from the harley guys towards, well, everything not Harley, so yes, I have a chip on my shoulder about Harleys. It is the "boutique" attitude that kills me. My father and mother in law has harley's, neither of which I would call an accomplished riders, but at least they are putting the miles on them.

But I stick by my statement, Harley's are owned for image or resale only, there is no category where they are better than pretty much any bike on the market otherwise.

However, there was once a time where they played with actually designing a V4 of thier own. too bad they didn't follow through, they spent like 14 million in 70s money to design it, and never produced it. If they had made that bike, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

I have owned my bike since 1987- have never dropped it, have buried the speedo a few times (it goes to 150)- never have had it certified Cop style, though I have paced a fried at the 65 to make sure I won't accidently get speeding tickets. I had lots of throttle left after burrying the speedo. The only thing I have had to do to this bike is change tires and perform regular maintenence. I have taken it to the "lower 48" via the ferry system to Seatle, then rode it to vegas and back, taking the long way back via my grandparents place in Wyoming. Over 6K miles in that trip alone, knocking down over 30mpg at 65. Very comfortable bike, very forgiving, easy to ride, and all for around 2200 total invested.

Kinda generalizing a tad on them statements ain'tcha?

I rode shall we just say "other brands" for many years.
I currently own 2 Harleys because I prefer them to what I was riding before.
Neither was purchased for "Image" and I plan on being buried on my bikes (or pass them to my son) before I'll sell 'em.

As for the 'tudes of the "Motorcycle Enthusiasts" that you and I run into,..........Yup, there are those who treat "Bike Runs" like Holloween,....time to "dress up" and play "I'm a Baaaaad Man".
They're also the ones keeping folks like OCC, Jesse James, etc in business. $60,000 to start for a motorcycle?.......

I don't look down at anyone who has their head on straight & Knees in the Breeze.
They're just another friend on life's big highway.
