F350 Brakes

Trying to help out Dad. He has a 1997 f350 motor home, had trouble with the brake caliper hanging up (from what I hear it's a common problem).

He replaced the caliper, brakes pads and rotor, and bled the brakes. Now he is old school, so bear with me. He bled the fronts by having mom mash on the pedal while working the bleeder in the normal fashion. He says brakes work fine.

The problem is the abs light is on. And from what he tells me, when the abs light is on, the abs does not (will not) work.

I told him, probably air in the line, lectured him about the block of wood under the pedal when bleeding, and told him to let it gravity bleed, and that maybe the light will go out after xx amount of starts (code clearing on it's own if problem is fixed).

Anything else to check or do?? Any special bleeding button or switch to activate the abs pump?? Any bleeding procedure to follow? Ony the fronts were worked on. Thanks, Kevin

Abs light is usually cleared by disconnecting the battery.

As far as bleeding gentle tapping on the caliper helps release air bubbles and gravity bleeding the front is the easiest.

I don't know about Fords but when the ABS light comes on in a Dodge it's usually a bad speed sensor .

ABS lights are usually on when there is a problem with the ABS system, not the brake system...

You also have to make sure and use the proper brake fluid.... Check the owner manual and verify which type he used..
