External Hard Drive
External Hard Drive
I made a big mistake with my external hard drive tonight, it's power plug is the same as my laptop's and I accidentally plugged the hard drive into the laptop power supply which is 19 volt, the hard drive has a 12 volt supply. Now I can't get the drive to spin up and the led on the case only flashes, I am pretty sure I cooked the board in the enclosure for the hard drive, b.t what about the drive, is it done? I guess I am gonna go buy another enclosure and see what it does, but I figured someone else has had to make that mistake before and could let me know ahead of time. Thanks guys.
Buy another inclosure. It should work just fine. The board should of took the brunt of it. I have seen the enclosures dump many times but the drives would be just fine. You can also throw it in a desktop without the enclosure (if you know how to set it up Primary, secondary, Master, Slave IDE drive stuff), if you need to get data off of it.
I thought about that but my desktop is in storage and I don't wanna go drag it and the monitor out until we move into the new house. Glad to know that the drive is most likely ok. Thanks.
Back up and backup again. Since last week I've been trying to recover excel data through every means possible(Pandora recovery)...the folder/files just disappeared. The only thing I can think of was that "Picaso" picture editing software grabbed the pics within the folders when someone did an import and all other data which was unrecognized by Picaso was deleted. I think I'm going to get another external drive to back up the 1st external drive which sounds crazy.
