The 'Exciting Place', eh? Not exactly the name I had for it after trying 7 times to get in!

SUNDAY, MAY 6th:

1835 - James Gordon Bennett published the "New York Herald" for the first time.

1861 - Arkansas became the ninth state to secede from the Union.

1877 - Chief Crazy Horse surrendered to U.S. troops in Nebraska.

1889 - The Universal Exposition opened in Paris, France, marking the dedication of the Eiffel Tower. Also at the exposition was the first automobile in Paris, the Mercedes-Benz.

1937 - The German airship Hindenburg crashed and burned in Lakehurst, NJ. Thirty-six people (of the 97 on board) were killed.

1941 - Joseph Stalin assumed the Soviet premiership.

1941 - Bob Hope gave his first USO show at California's March Field.

1942 - During World War II, the Japanese seized control of the Philippines. About 15,000 Americans and Filipinos on Corregidor surrendered to the Japanese.

1945 - Axis Sally made her final propaganda broadcast to Allied troops.

1960 - U.S. President Eisenhower signed the Civil Rights Act of 1960.

1962 - The first nuclear warhead was fired from the Polaris submarine.

1981 - A jury of international architects and sculptors unanimously selected Maya Ying Lin's entry for the design of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

1997 - Army Staff Sgt. Delmar G. Simpson was sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping six trainees at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.

1997 - Four health-care companies agreed to a settlement of $600 million to hemophiliacs who had contracted AIDS from tainted blood between 1978-1985.

1999 - A parole board in New York voted to release Amy Fisher. She had been in jail for 7 years for shooting her lover's wife, Mary Jo Buttafuoco, in the face.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The sun shines and warms and lights us and we have no curiosity to know why this is so; but we ask the reason of all evil, of pain, and hunger.

The coffee is quite... 'mature' this morning.

Morning all,
Mother Nature had a bit of a hissie fit on southern Alberta yesterday. Friday evening the DW and I sat on the deck sipping wine and enjoying the beautiful evening. Then yesterday a system rolled through here. There were strong winds and total whiteouts from the snow. Highway travel was not recommended. Then it turned to rain and once that was done the temp dropped below freezing again. Sweet!! Today the sun is out, ther is a gentle breeze and it is supposed to be a beautiful day. You have to love spring in the shadow of the Rockies.
Scotty, beware. The weather guessers say the system has headed east into Saskatchewan. You can have it.
Have a great Sunday everyone. DW and I are about to saddle up and head into Calgary for birthday gifts for her Dad and my sister. I guess we should get a Mother's Day gift for her Mom too.

To all the kids and fathers out there, don't forget, next Sunday is Mother's Day!

I can't tell you specifically why it was bad yesterday, but... remember a few months ago when the website was sold?

Yeah. That's what happened.

I just realized how dumb the last sentence of my last post was. EVERY one of us has a mother. Like mine, she may be deceased but I still have a mother. Geeze and I like to think I am a reasonably intelligent guy.

If Heidi (JWBM) is the DTR Mom, who is getting her gift? Is that Top's job?

Morning all. I keep getting this "connection timed out" message. Other than that, it's cold windy and some rain/snow showers moving through.

past couple days actually..

got a quick question for the fire fighters among us.

do ABC fire extinguisher pack if they are kept in a vehicle or does the anti caking agent keep that from happening.

I'm glad YOU said that. I've been thinking it for a LOOOONG time. And to think some were just afraid there would be ads everywhere! Actually, too bad ads AREN'T everywhere, then the advertisers wouldn't be getting their money's worth from their advertising dollars, they'd complain to IB and the problem would be fixed!

YOU! Didn't anyone tell you? It's your turn this year. She likes Jeeps, diesels, heavy equipment and boats. In that order.

Yes, they'll pack even hanging on the wall. Good idea to shake them up once a month.

Let's see how long it takes to post this time...
