I really do miss my concealed carry permit from when we lived in Richmond. Virginia is definitely cool about that. I was packin' every minute except on the job (had it in my lunch cooler) and in church (left it in the console). What a great feeling.
Here in the people's republic of MD, like DC, the gov't knows better than you, and is there to protect you anyway, often from yourself. Our state motto is "Because we care" or some crap like that.

This is why we have the District of Columbia. While federal tax laws do come from Washington DC, it, in turn cannot be taxed by a state because it's considered a Federal District and not part of any state.
