easy engine swap ?

ok I've got a question about engine swaps. If I ever decided that I wanted a 4 door say f-250/350 what years could I put my 1997 cummins in and still pass the most stringent emissions tests. Not that ND has any! for NOW!!! I am always back and forth about weather or not to refurb my '97 2500 in my sig...sell it and buy a 12v 3500 5 speed...or just take my engine and place it in a truck with foor doors. Untill I have the money to actually doooooo one of these options They are all viable ones and constantly rolling around in my head

It's hard to tell about emissions laws. Each state has their own policy. Some allow newer engines in older vehicles, some allow transplants of engines available from the factory for that specific model, some don't worry about diesel emissions at all. I would check ND laws about emissions, and while you say they don't have emissions checks, they most certainly have some sort of emissions standard for vehicles. Wish I could help further, but it's a mad jumbled world of laws out there...

I understand that the laws change from state to state. What I am wondering is if say I take my 97 motor and put it in a truck that came with a diesel as an option that is a 97 or eariler do you think I would be ok in most places...just on the swap

I think you'd be fine in most places.
