I have a quick question. I spend most of my time over in the 3rd gen section and don't know as much on the 12v as I would like. I have a buddy wondering if he can match up an NV5600 to a 96 or 97 CTD? I guess he toasted his NV4500 and would rather have the 6 speed.

sure he can, but the 6 speed's parts are getting hard to find and expensive. You should convince him to stay with the 5spd unless he really needs the 6speed for heavy towing to make the shifts less distant than the 5spd. I've seen some good thread on the swap, do a search for nv5600 swap if he still wants to do it

 

I was 99% sure if could be done. Thanks for the info. I tried talking him into just staying with the 5 spd as it has also been an extremely reliable tranny with just the same common problem. He may end up doing it... who knows. Thanks again for the info, much appreciated
