DTRs Summertime Beach Party 7-26-09 to 8-1-09

Break out the flip flops, tank tops and cut offs. Put the coolers in the back of the truck and fill them with Ice and cold beverages. There's bound to be a few of us who have a 12 volt coffee pot or an inverter so we're covered there too. Looks like there's a good spot for a bonfire, volleyball and horse shoes as well.

Looks like the weather's gonna cooperate too. Swing on by and enjoy!

Good morning to everyone from a lot further south than the north pole. Still not fully light here, but so far it looks like it is going to be another very nice day here in Paradise.

Down here, some of the natives have a tradition of setting off fireworks at about 5 or 6 in the morning to "celebrate" whatever. Never have discovered just what each "celebration" is, but it appears to have something to do with celebrating various saints This is normally at or close to one of the Catholic churches. Yesterday morning at 5:30 someone set of a few thousand bangers. This morning at 6:05 another few thousand were set off. Nobody can sleep thru that racket. I am serious about a few thousand and not just a few hundred. These are all homemade fireworks.

Could not find any hot coffee, so made some good strong Mexican coffee for you to enjoy. Here, have some tacos with chile to stop those rumblin's.

Oh yeah, like THIS is going to work. 'Beach Party'... We're going to have people going into the breakroom, find no one there, figure out where to go and track all the crud from the breakroom out onto the beach. THEN, the EPA is going to get all bent out of shape because of the beach pollution, so people will start heading back into the breakroom, and in the process drag all the sand and other beach crud with them, which makes more work for ME.

Which proves the fact that there's no NEED for any other place than DTR! Keep out of those other dives and stick right here.

Morning all, here's your history;

On this day in 1775 - A postal system was established by the 2nd Continental Congress of the United States. The first Postmaster General was Benjamin Franklin.

1788 - New York became the 11th state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

1881 - Thomas Edison and Patrick Kenny execute a patent application for a facsimile telegraph (U.S. Pat. 479,184).

1893 - Commercial production of the Addressograph started in Chicago, IL.

1907 - The Chester was launched. It was the first turbine-propelled ship.

1908 - U.S. Attorney General Charles J. Bonaparte issued an order that created an investigative agency that was a forerunner of the FBI.

1945 - Winston Churchill resigned as Britain's prime minister.

1947 - U.S. President Truman signed The National Security Act. The act created the National Security Council, the Department of Defense, the Central Intelligence Agency and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Chaikwa, your history 'lesson' this morning caused me read something that I came across just after reading your post, so just in case anyone is interested, here it is:

American Minute for July 26th:

On JULY 26, 1775, Benjamin Franklin became the first U.S. Postmaster General, a position he held prior to the Revolution under the British Crown. Franklin established a volunteer fire department, a circulating public library, an insurance company, a city police force, a night watch and a militia. He set up the lighting of city streets and coined the electrical terms "positive" and "negative." On June 28, 1787, as Governor of Pennsylvania, Benjamin Franklin hosted the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, where he moved: "That henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning." Franklin wrote April 17, 1787: "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." Benjamin Franklin wrote his epitaph: "THE BODY of BENJAMIN FRANKLIN - Printer. Like the cover of an old book, Its contents torn out, And stripped of its lettering and gilding, Lies here, food for worms; Yet the work itself shall not be lost, For it will (as he believed) appear once more, In a new, And more beautiful edition, Corrected and amended By The AUTHOR."

Mornin all,

I like the idea of a beach party, but do we have enough dropcords and splitters for Mads kegerator and Scott's sheep contraption? What about the window unit? I'll bring some extra Carolina sand. I've got plenty to spare in the truck and shoes around the house. Well, weedeater, blower and edger to run. Hope there's a cloud in the sky to give me some shade today. 95* plus the southeastern humidity...yeah.

I'm planning to go out in the yard soon and start working...

Went and helped one of Angie's friends with her lawnmower and found her hot water heater for her... had some subway for lunch... mmmMMM! Waiting for my food to settle a bit, then it's off to the shed for some beer and cleanup.

There's got to be more to this story. I like the Italian BMT at Subway, they're good.
